Getting married in latvia is a pain in the butt
« on: May 03, 2007, 09:36:50 AM »
I just called the German register office, last time I called them they said all I need to send them so that I can get a certification of NOT beeing married is my gf's birth certification and a copy of her passport.

So since I have all that stuff today I called them back and found out that the person I was talking to was simply not telling the truth, now I don't know what I have to do, maybe call my local parish or god knows what.

German bureaucracy sucks monekyballs.

That is the day after my birthday, not that that helps you much. :)

Surely you can just turn up in Latvia and say I do...then if you need to make it legal in Germany just go to a registry office and make it legal...I ain't got a clue.

Are you both from Germany?  If not, and one or the other is from the US, what records do they absolutely need?  Can they be faxed from where-ever (ie: city hall, etc.)?

Google is already more worth than that fucking bitch in the register office:

I need a document that statest that I'm not married, how they going to give me that I don't know since I have been lifing in Ireland for the past 12 years.
When and if I get that document I have to get it legalised in form of an Apostille, if that is done the latvians will accept it.
Fuck me...

That's so weird.  There really is no proof that one "isn't" married.  Can't they run your social security number to veryify that you have never filled out a request for marriage?

Can you get married by a JP (they usually don't require much) and then present the church with the papers and conduct the ceremony there.

I can understand this guy's pain.  I'm an American, living in Germany and married a Belgium citizen, who happens to be Morrocan by heritage.  The paperwork was a nightmare!
