Criminals finding Jesus
« on: August 27, 2007, 11:33:03 AM »
I read today that Vick proclaimed he found Jesus. This made me wonder what those people that truly believe think of all these criminals that all of a sudden find Jesus AFTER they are caught.

Does this bother people of faith or do they just accept what these criminals say?

It seems odd to me that all these criminals find Jesus AFTER they are caught, where is Jesus in their lives while they are committing crimes?

Yeah, i heard the press conference live while i was driving to work.

After more research and after hearing more things,  I think Vick is a misguided young man who has made some serious mistakes and i think I'm more incline to agree with you ieff, he's not a good guy.  But i do respect him for saying what he said when he assumed full responsibility.

As far as his coming to Jesus thing.

Why does this always happen?  someone gets into serious trouble and in the aftermath "they found God"  It makes me sick.

It's BS at it's core but on the surface I'm sure they really believe it.

Real change takes time.

I think some people truly "find Jesus" when they realize what a mess they've made of their own lives.

But some just say they've "found Him" when actually they haven't.

I've been involved in prison ministry where we go in for a weekend (not sleeping there though) and some people seem truly genuine in their Christian faith and some don't.  But IMO, no matter what my opinion may be, only God knows their hearts for sure and He is their (our) ultimate judge.

On the other hand, I know people in free society that claim to be Christians that make me wonder.....probably exactly like people wonder when looking at me  :-[

What kills me is that they advertise it.  Shouldn't that be something they keep to themselves until they actually accomplish something?

I think you're absolutely right, real change does take time. I find it difficult to understand how someone can flip a light switch and all of a sudden have found God. In time I can see that happening but not nearly instantaneously.

It makes me sick too and I think it's an insult to those people that truly believe and live their lives based upon their faith.

That is a very interesting point.  I suppose some could see it as a ploy to gain sympathy and support by a whole new group of people.  That being said I hope he did get saved.  Even though I want him to do the most amount of time possible.

When Malcolm X was in prison, he found Allah, albeit he became more venomous towards whites because he got mixed up with the Nation of Islam's mentality.
When he went on his Hajj to Mecca, I believe that is when he truly found God (Allah), because he came back a changed man, a man that true to his convictions, not just a convicted man looking for a excuse for pity.

I read today that Vick proclaimed he found Jesus. This made me wonder what those people that truly believe think of all these criminals that all of a sudden find Jesus AFTER they are caught.

He meant he found his new cellmate, Jesus Morales.

Mr. Morales is currently serving 5-10 for armed robbery. Obviously, Vick has to go to prison to find Jesus.  ::)

That's a good point Hedge.  Only God truly knows people's "hearts" and He knows each of ours better than we know our own.
