« on: September 24, 2007, 03:20:41 AM »
Lovem every one of them ;)

My favourite one has to be Matilda the Black Peruvian... she is very calm and likes to investigate my hand when I clean out her tank..
My second favourite one is Susie, she us a Mexian Red knee, she is a little skittish and likes to flick hair at me, first image is her enjoying a jumper and second she decided to go for a walk (escaped) my wife was sleeping just below her on the couch :D I put the CD beside to see that she is respectable big.

i miss my tarantulas

This is a link to one of my former clients from when I lived in Ohio.  He's got some really, really good stock and will work with you if you are interested....

I had another client with 100's of tarantulas, unfortunately he doesn't do much off the internet but sticks to the reptile shows and word of mouth.

All I have right now is the one in my office... its a juvenile female rose hair I had to bring into work because of my wife protesting it.

she has some unusual spiders... I nearly bought me a Black Trapdoor once... and I can kick myself for not buying that huge Bite legged Brazilian... man she was as big as a Goliath... fucking massive and too intimidating at that time.

crap she even sells Death Stalkers probably the most venomous scorpion there is...

Yeah, he's got some super hot stuff.

I personally am allergic to scorpion stings---I was put in the hospital when I was a teenager by one of the little "bluff scorpions" we had in Missouri.   I try to avoid scorpions like the plague because I don't want to end up in the hospital getting hammered with drugs again.  Its kind of weird, because when I was in private practice, I was the only veterinarian for miles who'd see hot snakes, spiders, tarantulas. I've had clients bring everything from Eastern Diamonbacks to copperheads to gaboon's into the office.   Hell, I've published articles on medical managment of tarantulas and venomous snakes.  They dont' bother me at all   But scorpions, they give me the hebeejeebies.

I never saw the attraction either.  In the corps, seems like every Jarhead had a spider or snake when they started to authorize small pets in the barracks.

I specifically got my tarantula so that I can do hemolymph transfusions with her.  I feel kind of hypocritical advising other veterinarians on how to deal with the arachnid patient, yet I myself had never drawn "blood" from one.   So I had a chance to get this one, I got her.  She gets anesthetized every few months and I draw a small amount of hemolymph out so I can show my students how to do it and we can evaluate the hemolymph on a microscope slide.   For most of the students I've worked with in the last year, this is the ONLY time they get to do that sort of thing while in veterinary school.    I think that makes it somewhat important.

Their hairs can be very irriating and are used as a defense machanism, they kick their hair at an enemy or anything that threatens her.
So no I don't kiss them...

On a sidenote they don't actualy have hair they are more like i   bristle.
