Splenda - a recent PM
« on: October 29, 2007, 03:58:08 PM »
and my response.

Quote
Splenda is horrible for people.  Why do you reccomend it?  Whole Foods won't carry it.  It's just been linked to migraines, and the long terms effects are still being studied.

I don't "recommend" it, but I do use it and it is a sweetener of choice among many on these boards.  If you would like to debate the issue, please feel free to start a thread on the Nutrition board.  I'm sure several people would love to weigh in on the subject.

splenda actually has one calorie per teaspoon...and it comes from dextrose/maltodextren(sp?) combo...so for every four seaspoons you get 1 gram of carbohdrate.so for four tablespoons of splenda you get 12 grams of carbs. one cup of splenda equals 48 grams of carbs.

It's everyone's choice what they put into their bodies, and I for one will not even drink soda with sweetner in.

Don't talk crap about diabetes etc etc, come on honestly how many people with a sensible diet (especially most bb's) sit there putting sugar on their food all day and eating sweets and chocolate. I've never heard so much crap in my life than people going on about eating splenda because sugar causes diabetes? the world has been eating sugar for thousand so f years before splenda was on the market

it's your choice, but the bottom line is that sugar in sensible quantities has no detrimental effect whatsoever on a human. Splenda alond with other alternatives such as aspartame/saccarin etc etc have on the other hand had numerous complaints and proven health risks.

Im not usually the kind of dude to stop eating something cos their is an article about its risks etc etc, but I spent a long time looking into artifical sweetners and they are generally bad for you if you have them all the time. They commonly cause headaches, fatigue and have been reported to cause serious health problems to those who consume huge amounts.

My advice would be to stop using it, and just use sugar sparingly.

Are we talking about injecting into rats brains and watching bad things happen  ::) or the daily couple of teaspoons used to sweeten oatmeal?  ::)

Nah, i'm talking about guys that chuck splenda on their cereal, use it in tea/coffee 5-6 times a day, bake with it and drink about 5 cans of diet soda a day for good measure and probably chuck it in their supps to make it taste better

USE STEVIA powder its 100 times sweeter than splenda , its ALL 100 PERCENT NATURAL the chinese have been using it for 10,000 years. you are a fool not to use it and chose a manmade sweetner. It is also ZERO CALORIES and its ALKALIZING while splenda is ACIDIC you far behind left out pompous jerks :)

Doesn't do that to me but I just don't like the taste of things flavored with Stevia.

I'm sure they're not the type of guys to be following this kind of lifestyle either  :P

That is my only problem with splenda, which I do use on occasion.  I think the label can be misleading.
