I don't get it. The Religious Right wants a candidate that is:

   1. Fiscally conservative
   2. Pro-Life
   3. Anti-Gay marriage
   4. For prayer in schools
   5. Married with no divorces
   6. Christian
   7. A former soldier
   8. Reagen-esque

There is a candidate that:

   1. Is not only against raising taxes and moving to abolish the IRS, but also is totally against things like government loans and Medicaid that everyone is forced to pay into even though not everyone receives it.
   2. Not only would want to have Roe v Wade overturned, but goes as far as making it his life's career delivering over 4000 babies.
   3. Has already said that marriages should be left to those who carry them out (religions) and give them the religious freedom to say who they can and can't marry. Stating, specifically, that there should be no federal mandate to make Gay Marriage legal beyond the will of the people.
   4. Has said he would get rid of the Department of Education, which really is the only thing stopping communities from deciding whether they can or can't have prayer in the schools their children attend.
   5. Is still married to the same person, after 50 years, that he dated in high school.
   6. Not only considered becoming a Lutheran Minister before making his pro-life view his professional career, but has a Episcopalian family. Sure the Religious Right may have some reservations about electing Catholics and Mormons, but this guy is a Protestant just like them. Except, without the divorces and bastard children.
   7. Served in the US Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
   8. Not only was one of the few Republicans that endorsed Reagen when the Party looked up to Nelson Rockefeller, but is the only one who practices what Reagen preached. Reagen couldn't even practice what he preached. The guy is more Reagen-esque than Reagen himself.

Is a candidate's stance on the Iraq War and not helping countries, like Israel, which is not within the US President's Jurisdiction going to trump everything else this candidate has got going for him? I thought the issues with the Religious Right are abortions, prayer in schools, and the conservation of marriage as it has been carried out thus far.

RP (Ron Paul) doesn't want to fight muslims.

Therefore he isn't a christian crusader.

Many christians even believe that war with Iran will trigger the second coming of christ.

this is freaky.

That people are trying to create a reality from religious books. Somehow there is irony in that.

It seems like they are trying to make it happen.

No what's freaky is that ahmajinidad or however you spell it thinks the war will bring the second coming of allah, or Jesus or something I forget which. Maybe it was muhammed, who may be the same person. In any event I think with todays technology a war between muslims and christians could be very bad.

Actually - Ron Paul DOES lead among Christian Conservatives.

However, their corp interets don't like him of course.  Have you seen the way that FOX News outright INSULTS him?  He wins or takes second in most debates.  He raised $5 mil last quarter, almost as much as mccain who almost won in 00.  THe guy is loved by many republicans, and loved by many far right base primary voters.

Many true republicans don't like the war.  Many religious folks feel guilt when they vote - and can you blame them?  ROmney and Rudy and Thompson all want to attack Iran.  Tens of thousands will die.  Pre-emptively.  Many older voters realize they don't make much diff in this world, and voting is about the only way they can change the world.  Do they want their last meaningful act to be "putting into power a man who will start a 3rd war"?

Many repubs will stay home on election day.  They hate the idea of voting for another war, just a bit more than their personality disagreements with Hilary's husband.

The "Religious Right" is probably not getting behind Ron Paul because the guy doesn't appear to be electable.  They would be foolish to back a candidate who has no shot at winning the primary.

Uh....if all the religious right backed him...wouldn't that make him electable?
Christain nut jobs are a powerful group.
They may all be deluded.  They may all be ignorant.  But, they all vote.  And there are many of them.

Uh . . . No.  The "religious right" doesn't necessarily dictate the outcome of the Republican presidential primary.  I doubt they could form voting blocs in enough states to cause Paul to win the primary.  The guy is consistently at about 2 percent in the polls.  There are a lot more than just "the religious right" who apparently aren't supporting Ron Paul.
