they look small because most bodybuilders dont have long clavicles. the people with long clavicles have the best chest. people with short clavicles are all arms and delts eg. flex, dexter, phil, levrone ect

I think the new guys hit it differently because of their guts.  I think its an attempt to hide the gut by keeping the chest sunken in and covering the stomach with the arms.  Same think with the most muscular these days.

I would also like to add that heavy weight without proper form is counter productive. Hence Levrone's bird pecs.

right it takes a bird chest to pull of the best side chest ever ::)

The reason the chests are smaller is the lack of using free weight movements exclusively. My old gym from 2002-2004 was one of the old school type gyms that was just basic equipment, the old school iron plates with the fat lips and the only machines he had were Nautilus. So pretty much, everything you did had to be free weight. I gained 15 pounds in the first year there just from adjusting my training to all free weights. Guys today have so much to choose from they forget the basics. They end up doing giant sets with pink dumbells instead of pushing 3-4 plates on heavy benches and it shows over time. Guys back in the day did heavy flyes every workout, now its cable crossovers and pec deck. The guys back in the day KEPT IT INTENSE TO BROTHERS,NO MAGIC SHAKES FOR THEM,AGGHHRRR!!!!
