Big Time Talk on this New Kid and Contest Prep
« on: February 01, 2008, 12:42:19 PM »
It looks like this 20 year old bodybuilder in Russia is the cause of lots of interest within the Bodybuilding world and Supplement industry at present. From what we've been hearing, he'll be offered a contract soon from one of the major players and just might be invited to train in America no later than the start of this coming summer. Nothing official yet, but that's the RUMOR from a reliable source.

Now here's a question I got for someone who knows about Contest Prep. I haven't been involved in any contest prep activity in the past 20 years so please excuse my ignorance.

I've been to a few national level weigh-ins and am always surprised by the "lack of conditioning" in most of the guys on that day before the prejudging. Then at Prejudging I am taken completely by surprise on how well most of them have improved in that 24 hour (or less) period since the weigh-ins.

Most competitors paint up shortly after the weigh-ins but a coat or two of paint can't add significant improvements such as I often see at Prejudging.

So my question is: What do you expert Contest Preps suggest to improve so much between the weigh-ins and the prejudging? Painting and pumping up help but the improvement is way beyond that. Any modern day secrets you may wish to disclose is appreciated.

And speaking about that WONDER-KID from Russia, I'm going to post a couple of photos. The first APPEARS to be taken at the weigh-in which is usually about 24 hours before the prejudging. Alexey (on the left) looks a bit bloated (to be polite) at the weigh-in, but the second photo shows one hell of a difference. is it possible to make that much of an improvement between the weigh-ins and the prejudging?

Please allow the Contest Prep Pros to answer this question. Thanks, gang!

I assume that this photo was taken at the weigh-ins because I don't think a bunch of young kids enjoy running around in their underware with other guys.

And I assume this is the following day at Prejudging or the Finals.

Is it possible nowadays to make such a major change over-nite?

Back in my day, a guest posing pro would arrive in less than decent shape and lock himself up in the hotel room and come our three days later looking like he was ready for a major contest. Has that three day improvement period been  decrease to 24 hours? Is that humanly possible?

Thanks, again!

Hey Stunt, by the way the Russian looks pretty fuckin good man! all of them by the way.

Anyways to help answer your questions.  Many guys are sucking down to make weight for a certain weight class . Some are using diuretics or not drinking or eating for a while.  At the weigh ins most are looking quite flat which makes you look less conditioned , since your muscles are not pressing against your skin and  since your not pumped and less vascular leading to a less conditioned look.

At the weigh ins if you want to know who probably is most conditioned focus on their bodyfat, how thin their skin is. Key areas include: their legs, back of legs and lower back and abs.

After the weigh in most guys are eating like crazy to fill up. Some guys even stay up all night eating because they are so depleted. They put on their coats of tan, eat like crazy, get a good pump and when they walk out on stage they look like totally different people. Hope that helps

Going just by the two pics of this kid there really isn't as much of a difference as you are thinking. There are a couple of factors involved here. In order of importance. Lighting, Tan, couple of bumex and he's pumped. Also remember that he is not flexing his right leg properly in the top pick which makes it look a little smooth not to mention that it is a totally different pose. It has little to do a this point as far as food goes.

If you ever have the opportunity to check out the pros back stage for example. There is a huge difference in how one looks when they are just standing relaxed. I don't mean in a relaxed "pose" on stage. I mean totally not flexing. They look very smooth. The more ripped someone is the more dramatic the change when they flex.

Thanks, Alex! Thanks, Disgusted! Always good to read intelligent feedback on this board. You too, Bruce.

Here's what I think the future will bring ..... More young kids getting in tip top shape for whatever it takes. They may not compete, but they'll want that shreaded muscle to attract the ladies or just look good on the beach or to feel good about themselves.

Guys like Alexie here will get worthwhile contracts and keep on improving providing they don't burn out for various reasons. Other young kids will just be satisfied with looking and feeling good about themselves while impressing all the other kids at school with 6-pak abs and 17 inch biceps.

I think that there is an upcoming "boom" ahead where younger people start hitting the gym more often and training earnestly.

And I wouldn't be too darn surprised if this kid from Russia starts it all.

You think he's that special huh? Why couldn't Lee Priest start a "boom"? Lee was at about this level of development at 17.

Where did you hear that he will get a lucrative contract?

Van, Lee sorta did. I know many a guy back then who started serious wt training after seeing and meeting Lee at one of our local contests. But Lee was the only young guy who impressed us  back then because the bigger guys with builds like Arnold seemed impossible to  catch up with. Lee was built on a smaller scale and his build "seemed" to be attainable.

Lee was great while even younger than this Russian BB, but Lee didn't have the internet back then to to get the ball rolling. Nowadays, a great athlete can impress millions overnight.

BTW - If you ever saw Lee up close in contest condition, you'd probably agree with me that he was the best bodybuilder of all time.

It's just an un-educated guess, but I still think that there will be a bodybuilding boom among the younger guys. And it's coming soon.

i don't know how it is in USA but here in my country, when i went  to high school ,2 years before ,70% of guys in class were training in gym and couple of them were juicing ,no one give a fuck for competitive bodybuilding but they all want to look big ,strong and shredded ,but maybe this is only because of origins, good genetics and kind ersonality where you don't want to mess with them,i am talking about Balkan :P

Meso_z, no word so far on his competition plans but he did win some major contest in Russia and received a "Masters of Sports" certificate which carries some prestege in that part of the world.

I've got a good feeling that his coach is making some good plans on his behalf. He'd be a fool if he didn't take advantage of this initial success and future potential and tour the world representing one or more lifting related companies with a guaranteed contract that most kids his age would never see.

It should be interesting to see how and what he does this coming year.

Thanks for your input, pljuger. What country are you from?
