 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D....from Onion Sports.

NEW YORK—As they come closer to their Super Bowl clash with the formidable Patriots—the team they nearly defeated in late December—the Giants are confident that they can come close to beating the undefeated AFC champions on football's biggest stage.

"This team has already tasted victory against the Patriots," head coach Tom Coughlin said Monday. "By which I mean we were so close to victory that we could taste it. True, we did not actually experience that victory, but we came as close to beating them as anyone else has this season. That's the kind of team we believe we are, and I think the Super Bowl will prove that."

Couglin and his assistant coaches have been painstakingly breaking down game films from their Week 17 meeting with New England, analyzing every vital, near-victorious second for anything that might help them come that tantalizingly close to winning for the second time in as many months. They acknowledge that the Patriots are very good indeed, but the Giants believe they can draw on the experience of that near-victory, the confidence they discovered in barely losing to undefeated New England, and the lessons learned in forcing Bill Belichick's juggernaut to come from 12 points behind and beat them in the final minutes.

"This team really believes they can come close to winning the Super Bowl—very, very close," Giants quarterback Eli Manning said Tuesday after spending the morning watching film of his Dec. 29 home loss, film that laid bare the crucial interception he threw to Pats corner Ellis Hobbs. "We can come so close to beating them, so very, heartbreakingly close, that every player here will take it to their graves."

"This will be one to tell my kids about, that's for sure," Michael Strahan said. "If we can pull it off and almost beat these guys, they'll be showing those highlights until the end of time. When I die and come before those Pearly Gates, St. Peter himself will look down at me and say 'So, Michael, what was it like to be an eyelash away from winning that Super Bowl against those Patriots?' And Heaven itself will hold its breath while I tell them how we almost did it."

Meanwhile, in Foxborough, the Patriots are being careful not to give the Giants any bulletin-board material.

"Yeah, they good, they good," wideout Randy Moss said when told of the Giants attitude. "They got a good team. I guess we can't get too upset if they think they can nearly pull it off. Plus, hey, you got to admit, it ain't bragging if it's true. And they did nearly almost come close to practically beating us, come to think of it."

"Didn't, though," Moss added. "18 and oh, baby!"

Still, the Giants refuse to be completely intimidated.

"We stood up to them once, hit 'em in the mouth, and made them beat us," Coughlin said, noting that in the previous meeting, the Giants defense put the Patriots in the challenging position of having to score three times over the last 20 minutes of the game, which the Patriots naturally did with time to spare and without apparent effort. "And mark my words, that's what we're going to do in the Super Bowl—meet their strengths with ours, play as hard and as fast as we can, and force them to eventually beat us."

"Oh, crap," Coughlin added. "Crap. We're going to lose the Super Bow

It would appear that the national media hype has gotten completely out of control on some aspects of this game. All we hear now is that the Pats are vulnerable and have not gotten better. How Eli is now like his brother (please god, yes) and that the Giants D will and Running attack will crush NE. I would expect to hear that in NY and the reverse in NE but from the national media. Case in pointAdam Schechter (sp??), who usually is not prone to hyperbole, was on WEEI this morning and pretty much spent the entire time talking about how the Pats "have never been more vulnerable" than they are right now. And he talked about how the Giants only lost by 3 points the last time they played. How the Pats "haven't gotten better" late in the season, like they usually do, but have actually played worse. It went on and on and on.

Now, I repeat, I DO believe that the Giants have a pretty good shot next Sunday. They're talented on both sides of the ball, are well coached, have a lot of confidence, and are playing very well.

However, while the Pats may be "vulnerable" in some areas (and what NFL team is not?), Schechter's argument that they're not playing well lately and that they haven't gotten any better late in the year is crazy.

How does a team get BETTER than 52-7? How does a team get BETTER than 56-10?

If he means that they're not killing teams like they were back in the early part of the year, then OK. That's a fair argument.

But they're also not playing crappy teams either. Their last three opponents--Giants in the regular season included--all were playoff teams that posted double-digit wins during the season.

They just defeated one of the most talented (maybe THE most talented) rosters in the NFL in the AFC title game. Granted, that team had key injuries, but that's still one hell of a talented team, San Diego, and their interior lines are among the biggest and best in football.

The more I hear these national guys like Dr. Z and Schechter stumping for the Giants chances next week, the more I think that the Pats could blow these guys out. I think it will be between 4-7 points but I'd love for this to be over by half-time.

G men fans are classic. I have so many friends from college that I have not heard from in 5 years calling me telling me why the g men are going to kill the pats!

I'm happy for Coughlin and Eli.

Calvin what do you think about how much better the team chemistry is with Shockey and Tiki mia?

Dr. Z from SI picked the Giants.

This pretty much ensures an easy Pats victory.

Better without Tiki but I would have to say no about Shockey.
Shockey took a couple shots at Coughlin but NEVER another player.yes he has his "antics" on the field but Eli can handle it.from everything I read Shockey is very well respected in the locker room.he is loved for desire to win and the toughness he brings to the offense.

OH yeah..its not like they have no chance..its more how some in the national media is spinning the Pats season....if we dragged this on for a month we'd hear that the Pats have no chance to win...I know they have nothing to talk about this week but come on..the Pats are 18 and 0. On sat radio they give a good breakdown on how or what the Giants have to do....but they all always end with the fact that u can't cover eveybody and u can't blink. 7 points 28-21 Pats. The G fans are the worst....calling to fire Coughlin and can Manning...now he's a genius and the other is Peytonesque

I think Eli has turned into a much better leader and player with Shockey out. Maybe this is just a coincidence , but it seems to me that now that Shockey is out Eli is spreading the ball around and not trying to feed Shockey the rock at the expense of what the d is showing him.

Just a thought from a dumb ass pats fan ; ) How is Zack Deossie doing? Howwww do you feel about having a former patriots ball boy on the roster.

His father is a resident eei host. Big pats fan  ; )

He's playing special teams and snapper on punts.but he's still a rookie...and his old man is rooting for the Giants this week ;)
I truly believe Eli's coming into his "own" has to do with the play calling more than anything.Boss the tight end is looking good but I think the team would be scary looking with Shockey on the field.
look what the a d wold be facing,
an improving Eli
Plexico-without the ankle probably a pro-bowler this year
Toomer-steady eddy
Smith-turning into a nice # 3 receiver{Toomer's eventual replacement}
Shockey at TE with Boss as his backup and 2nd TE
a nice 2 back attack with Jacobs and Bradshaw
ad in a very solid Oline and thats not to shabby an O

...not saying its the Pats but its pretty damn good :)

Pretty good run down...How many years left for Toomer. Hell u guys should can Shockey and get something for him. Eli seems alot more comfortable without him. I will say this, maybe Eli should grow some balls and tell Shockey to shut the hell up. I think this season, regardless of the frog stomping ur going to get next week.... ;D....will help him do just that.

Kevin Boss has done a good job of filling in for Cocky.

Forget about Tiki. He's joined Chris Collinsworth at NBC and they're a happy couple of losers.

it will be close and tight in the first half of the Super Bowl but in the second half the Pats will win by 20 or 30 with Brady being MVP.

lol!

plaxico needs to zip it up.

Plex took it a step further and told the media how the g men would win 28 - 17! One of the owners of the g men guaranteed a victory also. The ol Anthony Smith special 2.0!

Strahan made a comment saying if the G men held the pats to the same score they got the last time they met the g men would win. Hell 38 point aint a thang!

A certain giants lb also chimed in saying the pats would be held to 17 points. I mean the g men allowed 22 points per game on average over the season , and the pats scored an average of 30 per game over the same duration. The first time they met the giants played AWESOME. Pats only scored 38 on that night when it was 30 out and windy at Gillete.

Hell nice weather in a dome won't favor those low scoring pats at all!

G men can win this game. They better put up on game day. They are already talking like the game is there's to lose!
