I'm publicly calling 240 out on bullshit and hypocrisy!
« on: February 24, 2008, 06:46:34 PM »
240 spends a lot of time complaining about the politics of the USA.

He complains about McCain being a warmonger.

He decries the Neo-cons, yet at the same time of all of this he admits that the neo-conesque style of doing things (wars, bullying, false flag operations, etc.) is the thing keeping the USA afloat, a super power and most importantly helping to maintain his lifestyle, whih he admits would be unwilling to part with, so he shrugs his shoulders and says that is just has to be that way.

240, you can't have your cake and eat it too; either you don't like the way shit is going or you do, not I don't like the way shit is going but I need to keep my SUV so fuck it, it's all alright after all...

You wouldn't answer this via pm, so I have to call you on bullshit publicly!

Own up!
I hate the State.

I'm playing the pundit role.

The more I learn about politics, the more I see the parties are very similar, and all decisions of things that matter are done way above our simple minds.

It's just a really cool vivid history book that we're all watching live.  That's it.  Most people wouldn't change a thing if they could (and they can't) because it would reduce their standard of living.

I dislike the lying.  I would prefer honesty.  For example: "We are going to be invading 2 nations over the next 3 years, so that your car will run and you'll have clean drinking water.  You don't have a say in this.".

I'd respect that.  it's reality.  it ain't pretty, but it's how the world is.

McCain is a warmonger, but he's honest.  I respect that.

I don't like his tax cuts for the rich - it'll mean we need to continue borrowing at this rate, which is bad.

The one diff in the parties is that Dems will tax the rich more and borrow less (see: Clinton 92 to 2000)

You could live the same lifestyle, a better one even abroad, without supporting the disgusting politics that go on there and that's a fact, so it's still bullshit!

It doesn't matter if we support it, or spend our whole lives complaining about it.

Nothing will change.

Are you suggesting every time you find something about a country's policies or politics you don;t support you should move?

No, but 240's take on everything is that he wants to keep his SUV, his house and all the other junk he buys, however unfortunate it may be that the USA needs to rob, murder and pillage to do it.

Why not just have that stuff in another country without tacitly giving support to a regime which does something like that?

I kinda see your point.

However, I doubt 240 or Bust's next car will be a SUV, it may even be a hybrid.

I'm sure he's been contemplating low energy lamps, et al.

He will never be the leader, true.

But that isn't a requirement IMO.

(One of the rare posts where I defend 240 or Bust.) ;D

Northman, 240's position is ridiculous.

He says nothing will change, can be changed and what have you; he spends all his time talking about all this stuff that can't be changed.

Hypocrisy!

If you were here 2 years ago, you would have seen me ranting about 911, trying to change the world.

Then I realized you can't change the world.  All you can do it try to live a happy live in the circumstances around you.

These bigger things happen for hundreds of reasons we'll never understand.  We see filtered byproducts on the news daily, and that's what we argue about.  You claim I'm a hypocrite... I'd say I'm a former optimist of change who became a pessimist.  I used to get all excited... "we need to demand a second 911 investigation"... but in reality, 67% of the nation believes it was an inside job, and nothing changes.  Nothing.  Maybe a few repubs vote dem because of it, but nothing changes.

I'm a jaded pessimist now.  A realist.

You got all excited about something that by many is considered nothing but fairy tales.

I'm not saying everyone believe it to be so, but a lot, including myself, do.

If you would've picked something... shall we say, less suspect (for lack of better word) my guess is that you would've had better success.

Eg,
human rights (eg China, Iran, US Army, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Russia...)
Anti-war
Pro-life
Pro-choice
pro-environment
et al...

There are a lot of issues to get involved with, lots of fights to fight.

Issues that are actually acknowledged as legit, even by their opponents.

Eg, even Exxon will admit there is a environmental movement.

It's not a regime.  It's the nature of the beast in that capitalism breeds this negative effect.

Why are you gonna be like a fcuking Don Quixote and try to fight windmills, when there are much more real agendas to get involved in?

Is it because those topics don't have the excitement that a good ol' conspiracy theory has?

Or is there something else?

I'm just throwing this one out there for general speculation, not directed at anyone particular.

Sure it is.  Corporations influence foreign policy and politics. They influence these things to protect their economic interests outside the USA.  Europe does it.  But not on the scale and impact America does it.  They don't have the same power or money we do.  Why do you think France was so interested in getting involved in  "Iraq rebuilding" and America told them to bugger off?

On top of all of that.  Here's what you have that companies in America took full advantage of:

On 9/11 we were attacked.  A massive cowardly attack that killed 3000 people and dealt us a big financial blow.  As a result, America went on the war path and iraq was a justifiable target in most American minds (not mine from the very start) and many of our companies loved it!  They took full advantage of it.

The UN offerred to rebuild Iraq using a multinational force.

The idea is that if some muslim forces were used to help settle the violence, iraqis would be less likely to shoot at them, as opposed to US forces, which they've hated since birth.  A lot easier to shoot something you've been trained to hate your whole life.

We declined their help.  We preferred to set up bases and the pipeline.
