UK, March 18, 2008 - Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel 'Dune' is set for another movie incarnation, with The Kingdom director Peter Berg onboard to direct for Paramount.
According to Variety, the studio are set to make the futuristic tale a big-budget tentpole project, with New Amsterdam's Richard Rubenstein, who also interestingly produced the 2000 Sci Fi channel mini-series' Dune and Children of Dune, on production duties.
At present Paramount are looking for writers to adapt the bestselling book, which revolves around a power struggle for the remote desert planet Arrakis - the galaxy's only source of 'spice' - used for interstellar space travel.

David Lynch was the last filmmaker to have a crack at the title, with his 1984 film starring Kyle MacLachlan, Sting and Patrick Stewart considered a flop at the time, though it now has a strong cult following.
The novel was also made into a successful RTS videogame series by Westwood back in the late 1990s.
Besides war-on-terror thriller The Kingdom, actor-turned-director Berg has also worked on Friday Night Lights and the upcoming Will Smith starrer Hancock.
