How to solve the immigration problem
« on: April 15, 2008, 12:42:06 PM »
If your company knowingly hire illegals, it gets shut down.  You're banned from operating a business in the USA for 5 years.

If you, personally, hire illegals, you are deported.

No cheating employers = No jobs for illegals = Illegals stop coming here.

Hi, 240?  Linda here from England.

Do you actually have a problem?  What is it?  Not enough land?  No space?

I realise taxes might be problematic.  But do you want to discuss the immigration scenario in the UK?

Everyone wants to come here and does.

Look, I'm an emmigrant, okay?  A Legal Alien.  My family moved to Canada when I was a child and we were fortunate to be able to do so.  But I came back to Britain.

Luckily nowadays most rich elderly people are selling up their stately piles and moving to France Spain and Italy.

There are more people leaving than there are people swimming the Channel to get in.

We're a little tiny island, no bigger than Lake Huron.

The immigration "problem" cannot and will not be "solved".  The world is a tiny golf ball nowadays and people are able to fly or swim.  And after all, the British owe the rest of the world for having conquered them.  Your country does too.  Afraid so.

It's a mixed race nowadays...

ha ha, I love how it's OK for Mexico to clamp down on illegal immigration, but when we do it, it's "racist"  ::)

I was going to say something like that.  (edit >>>2 posts above

240, you obviously don't run your own business, you work for someone else.  (sorry, but...

Because if you did, you'd gladly take on the hardworking glad to do it and minimum wage workers

(We presently have a similar problem here in England having opened up all the borders and widened the European Economy.  We have an influx of highly skilled willing builders and plumbers from the Baltic and the Brits are going apeshit.  All of this is legal btw.

If you want to go report an illegal immigrant, go for it.  But I say:  you've got to see some of the people coming here from Africa and India.  They deserve a break, having worked so hard, travelled so far, to get here.  Then they are willing to attempt to learn our mad language?

madness.  they don't have any beds left in prison in England anymore, it's all Osama's relatives taking up the space.

No room in jail for illegal travellers, instead they work in the kitchens and on building sites, they do the jobs others won't do.  They sleep 10 to a room and send money home to their poor families.

And they say thank you (in English) and smile with thanks.

xxxLinda, I traveled to England last year and just loved it.  I hope with the lax immigration policies in your country, you don't loose what it means to be traditionally English because the history and overall character and traditions of most of the English people are simply amazing.  I think I would very much enjoy living in England.

The only problem I see with certain immigrants is that they choose not to integrate at all into society around them.  I think its rude but my opinion I guess.
In the US, we have a big problem with illegal, NOT legal, immigration.

Cheers!

Yes, I know, I lived there.  (I'm one of the few Brits who love America).  I continue to critisize you, but hey...

And I neglected to state that most of the immigrants here in England are of course illegal.

But I don't see how or why it should be a massive problem to your country, (a country which was founded by immigrants and which has massive amounts of land

(and money, but that's another issue...

Britain unfortunately, is losing it (and that's not because of the immigrants, because most very happily integrate, work and pay taxes).

I think perhaps it's our current economy or inflation or something.  All the pubs are shutting down and the lifestyle will soon be very different.  Unless...

It's okay it's only 1 in 10 or something.

We're not overrun.  London is very colourful, & I love it.

The little villages are still intact and we may still visit there on weekends...  The pub and the local post office may not still be in business because everyone's gone to the local mall, 10 miles away, but hey.  That's nothing to do with immigration, that's the supermarkets taking over.

I still don't blame the US for anything...

We'll all retain our history irregardless.

Cool, I loved England and can't wait to go back.  Visited London, York and Bath last year.
The pubs are excellent.

Honestly, how long is this shit going to go on.  We just need to organize and TELL the idiots in Washington this is what we want and we are going to do it.  Building a wall would take little time or effort and the billions we would save would be well worth it.

The Minutemen have the right idea.  No prosecutor should ever charge them with murder if they shoot some invading foreigner dead.  Have the Army Corps of Engineers build a nice giant wall and then have a 2 mile stretch thick of mines.  That'll keep them south of the border.

You just KNOW that someone will come up with a website where you can view all the mines that have gone off :)

Maybe google earth would be cool for that.  huge emptry fields, and a few craters...

They are an integral part of our system, but I sure don't like amnesty.

something in the middle.

the greed of small biz owners is what creates the problem.

phase the illegals out, raise min wage a bit to keep employees showing up, and lower that 12 mil illegals to 6 million over 4 years.

as you may have noticed, sometimes I take adversarial positions because

1) it facilitates discussion on this fine board.
2) i am unsure of my actual position but would like to see options proven good or bad by the arguments of others
3) i just like to argue.

You're hilarious.  20 years ago they built a tunnel under the sea here, so that the immigrants would no longer have to swim.

But the way I look at it, only the best make it this far, most get as far as Europe and gladly stay there.  So, the ones who make it to Britain must surely be the epitome of "survival of the fittest".  Those are the illegals.

Of course, if you're from the right part of Africa or India or Hong Kong or the West Indies and have a British passport; are from any European country (half of which I've not even heard of); or are instead a refugee from a war-torn place, you get free housing and a weekly handout from the taxpayer to live on which is based on how many children you have.  Madness.

It's still a gorgeous place to live though.  Only just.

Super hilarious.  You play the devil's advocate, yeah?

I find myself often sticking up for the underdog (I'm blessed, so I feel I must).

But I reckon I need to travel to someplace else shortly to really see (again) what it's like out there.

(Which is, naturally, why many rich Brits are retiring to more accommodating shores all of a sudden.  And taking their ill-gotten gains or their hard-earned pension with them.  Many are blaming immigration.
