And what exactly is wrong with teaching good citizenship, patriotism, and loyalty to the state?  Those are not by modern definition liberal ideals at all.  These kids should be in the public educational system, not sheltered in their homes.  Despite the lackluster education system(no dumb kid left behind), these kids need to be within an environment that has frequent interaction with other people, even in a multicultural cesspool of certain parts of California(which is why many parents want to homeschool, or shelter, their kids from the other "scary" kids who have a differing skin color).

Good citizenship, patriotism, and loyalty to God and country are great things when tempered with individual independence and liberty.

There are good public schools and bad ones. Free Americans should have the choice to do what is best for them and their families. Taking away that choice is wrong.
