I've been to Russia on numerous occasions, Moscow and Saint Petersburg are just like any other EU city, democratic, young hip professionals.
I've also been to the areas North of the Caucus Mountains, even here, in deep Russia people are in capitalism swing, and there wasn't a person I talked to (politically) that wasn't in favour of democracy. Sure, they might sway to a socialistic democracy, but what EU country doesn't?
There's no foundation for a Russian/EU socialistic conspiracy theory other than the absurd.
You can take my word for it (someone who has visited many parts of Russia) or someone who claims expertise by researching on the internet.
