New trend in the Evangelical movement
« on: May 09, 2008, 02:46:21 AM »
Lately I've seen a huge movement toward these buttheads preaching "healthy and wealthy"  Honestly, wtf lol...  I see these changes happening like crazy over the ages.  God wants you to be rich now ::)  The poor just failed I guess ::)
These assclowns will just do whatever to keep the cash flow coming in ::)

Luke 16:13-14
"No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth."

Yes, I tune into these dipshits semi regular but not for the reasons most do ;)

I agree with you and this is false teaching they will reap what they sow. There is a verse in the bible that confronts these type of false teachers. Can't recall right now but I think part of it is in Matthew 25

I have a problem with people trying to profit on the backs of members of their congregation, but I don't have a problem with the "healthy and wealthy" message.

Here is a passage that talks about wealth:

"Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
So your barns will be filled with plenty,
And your vats will overflow with new wine."

Proverbs 3:9-10

that's the funny thing about the bible, you can find passages that seem to support almost anything you want.  Here's a few tidbits from Luke:

18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

I don't see anything inconsistent there at all.  Someone who lets wealth corrupt him or her will have a problem and that often happens.  That particular man loved his money more than anything else.

Here is another:

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And prove Me now in this, Says the Lord of hosts,
If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it."

Malachi 3:13

There are a number of others that talk about prosperity.  Here is one that ties hard work with success in business:

"Do you see a man who excels in his work?
He will stand before kings,
He will not stand before unknown men."

Proverbs 22:29

You forgot a fiew items from that account of Luke 18, like verses 26 and 27:

And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved. And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

And, as Beach Bum said, this guy loved his money, more than he wanted to follow Jesus. Contrast that with the tax collector, Zaccheus, who offered to return up to four times the money that he'd taken from his fellow Jews in taxes.

The point is simple: Zaccheus let nothing stand in his way of being with Jesus, something that can't be said for the rich man (or a lot of us, unfortunately).
