night job problem (long post)
« on: July 20, 2008, 01:04:30 AM »
Ok I work a night job 1130-730 I usually sleep 830 to around 3-4. Here's my diet. meal 1 2 scoops whey, 8 egg whites 2 whole, cup oats fish oil, multi. 2 hours later is my pre workout 2 scoops whey,10 g glutamine and an apple.I train while sipping on mass explosion then have my creatine then my whey 20 mins later with carbs. To sum it up I have chicken and a sweet potatoe as my pwo meal, 2 scoops whey1scoop casein shake, steak and broccoli and before bed 1 or 2 scoops whey and 1casein as the rest of my nightly meals. My job is security and its far from strenuous I want to start doing cardio, but lifting is first priority as a powerlifter. I want some opinions on what possibly I can change diet wise and when I can do my cardio so I can start to shed some fat. Working nights interferes with both. Any advice is appreciated.

I agree with flexington, things shouldn't be that different on grave, I mean there still is 24 hrs in a day and you only work 8.

But I do have some recommendations and observations:

1. Don't do cardio right after work, you will always feel tired and skip it.  Even though your job may be sedentary, trust me I know from experience.

2. It looks to me like you are relying too much on shakes.  Shakes are great for getting extra protein but I think you should be eating more solid food.  Especially working security, you can take a big cooler of food with you to work every night.

3. You are lifting weights after eating pretty much no solid foods.  Have one of your chicken and sweet potato or steak and broccoli meals before you lift.

well you can say 'it should be the same' and im sure that it is very close to being the same, but working the graveyard shifts do have an effect on the body's metabolisms and sleeping patterns, although you do adjust, you're still not 'meant' to be waking up in the afternoon.

Exactly.
I've worked every possible hour/shift you can. Still didn't let that effect my workouts.
Gone to work at 10pm, worked till 8 in the morning, slept then hit the gym.
Worked out at 1am-3am.
You name it I've done it. It's not different than if you worked days. 24hr Fitness' are great, or even better you befriend a gym owner that will allow you to be a key member so you can come and go as you please.
