Aside from my beef with beach bum, this is a serious Q.
I've seen the south FL tourist service economy take a major dump this spring break, before any 'recession' talk came around. As a result, other industries here have suffered, there has been a flood of unemployed people, and people are moving away, which has a ripple effect all over the place.
In parts of the country like hawaii and florida and other places where people with extra money visit, what happens next? It's naive to say "people will still vacation no matter what!" because the truth is that with less money and more expensive gas and airline tix, LESS people will travel.
