Diet Soda Cake
« on: May 16, 2008, 05:40:23 PM »
Apparently this isn't new news, especially around the Weight Watchers crowd, however, I just heard about it.

Take any box cake mix and mix it with one can of diet soda - nothing else.  Bake according to directions on box.

I just tried it with Betty Crocker Super Moist Triple Chocolate Fudge and a can of Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry Vanilla.  Worked great!

Yellow cake mix & diet orange or 7-Up
Any dark cake mix and Diet Coke
etc.

170 calories per serving -vs- 270 calories

Here's another one that's supposed to be good ...

Take a box of brownie mix and a can of black beans.  Do not drain.  Puree the beans in a blender and mix with the brownie mix (with a spoon).  Spread in a 9x13 pan and bake according to the box directions.  I hear it comes out great with no bean taste whatsoever...  Sounds like it would be worth a try.

Wouldn't you be better off eating the milk, eggs, and olive oil and leaving out the cake mix?  :D

haha, thats kinda what I was thinking.

wouldn't taste as good though  ;D

A lot of times when i make pancakes or waffles or coffee cakes I cut back on the milk and water and oil and add a couple extra eggs and eggwhites.

I think it tastes better that way and plus I feel better eating it cause I know I'm getting some extra protein

Water in your pancakes?!  BLASPHEMER!

Eggs, buttermilk, self raising flour, salt, sugar, melted butter, ...blueberries.  Not for dieting, but it sure is good.

Quite honestly, I don't know.  I've never really made a box cake before ~
There was no soda flavor at all, so I think any dark flavor would've been fine with the dark chocolate.  Later, I read that some people add 2 egg whites to the mix just for texture sake.  Seemed fine to me.  No, it wasn't like some rich, dark, decadent dessert, but certainly quite acceptable.  Throw some cool whip on it and I think it could be a good alternative to the real thing...

Princess.  The people that ranted and raved at how good this was are the fat weight watchers people that would eat a piece of cardboard with cheddar cheese on it and call it the best pizza in the world

Not gonna disagree with you there  :P

Deprivation does some strange things to the mind.

But... in all honesty ...the cake wasn't bad  :P
