Can someone give me a serious answer to this question?

I’m a reporter with the Daily News and I have a question – maybe you can answer it, or send me to somebody who can. I understand bodybuilders and other athletes used Viagra or other ED medications to help their bodies absorb steroids, growth hormone, etc. Do you know anything about this?

That makes no sense what so ever.   It sounds like another internet myth to me.   ED medications (Viagra, cialis) work on the vasculature within the penis.  They have nothing to do with androgen receptors.  Viagra was initially developed to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pains associated with he heart).  Phase I clinical trials suggested that the drug had little effect on angina, but that it could induce erections.

The mechanism of action of Viagra gain has nothing to do with androgen receptors.  Viagra causes smooth muscle relaxation (vasodilation) of the vessels within the penis, resulting in increased inflow of blood and an erection.

Yeah, that goes back to the NO production that leads to the vasodilation.  My understanding is that it happens in some people, but not in others.

There have also been some anecdotal reports on viagra working to help with neurologic disease such as diabetic gastropathy, but those reports are anecdotal.   I've  thought it might work on rabbits with illeus for years now, but I haven't tried to push a research protocol past an IACUC partially because of the nature of the drug and the stigma associated with it and partially because I think that is fundamentally inhumane about inducing illeus.  But it might work.

Maybe they believe in Milos' hyperemia theory. That the increased blood flow would increase drug uptake in the muscles, just like Milos believes amino acid uptake and anabolism increases during workouts due to the increased blood flow.

Viagra has been somewhat popular just before going on stage for getting "pumped".

No, Ronald.

Ed meds have nothing to do with absorbtion of anabolic substances.
