Question: What is the athletic purpose of putting on some spaceage, spring loaded ,straight jacket to try and bench 1000 lbs?
Isn't the raw ( no special shirt) record of around 720 lbs , more than enough?!
Same with synthol and extreme drug use in bodybuilding. Why do we need pros BIGGER than Arnold or Sergio? Why does some guy think loading his arms with oil to make an absurd looking 25" bicep is bodybuilding? More important, why would anyone cheer this on and ask for more?
Granted , the advances in science, drugs and technology allow humans to do more than we ever imagined as posssible. But, is it "sport" any longer when it is helped so much by it in terms of performance?
Why is moderation such a hard sell? For example, I use the prescribed drug Androgel, to simply keep my the ideal range for healthy testosterone levels. The power lifters of years past used a belt or wraps to help support their joints and maybe aid in lifting a couple more pounds. The bodybuilders of the Arnold era took some drugs to help get ready for a show. Many have pointed at this as proof that lifting was never really natural. While I admit that this is true on a technical basis, it misses the real point.
That is, when the drugs, devices or whever else makes up more than a small % of the athletes/bodybuilders performance and success, we have jumped the shark.
