Terry Bradshaw admits to steriod use
« on: June 24, 2008, 05:40:46 PM »
Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw said in a radio interview with Dan Patrick last week that he used steroids during the 1970s, when he was leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl titles.

Bradshaw indicated that he obtained the steroids with a doctor's prescription, and that his primary motivation in using them was to recover from injuries, not to build muscle.

"We did steroids to get away the aches and the speed of healing," Bradshaw said. "My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and thought nothing of it. ... It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn't to get bigger and stronger and faster."

It's been well established that several players on the great Steelers teams of the 1970s used steroids, but this is, I think, the first time Bradshaw has said he used them.

Didn't the late Mike Webster of the Pittsburgh Steelers pass away from using steroids although his death was said to be related to a badly damaged heart ailment. That's a question I have held on to since Webster became deceased.

The Book - False Glory - the Steve Courson story - has lots of stuff from Steelers of that era.

Drugs are a huge part of football, prolly the most drug influenced sport ( aside from bb of course).

More than half the NFL's players are on growth hormone, especially at the skill positions.

Until there's an accurate test for HGH, the usage will continue.

Not surprised.

I agree about the level of drug use in the NFL (and NCAA).  It's rampant.

I agree, I would think at least 70 percent of the NFL is on some kind of illegal substance.

As long as professional athletes pay for their HgH by CASH and not a CHECK(i,e. Rodney Harrison), there won't be a paper trail.

That's why the majority of the athletes don't get caught. The one's that do get caught are the ones who were too lazy(or too stupid) to go to the bank and draw cash out and stuff it into a gym bag.  ;)

I agree, Rodney is an idiot, and to think he was to lazy to pay in cash boggles my mind.

why would you even take a chance and pay by check!?!?
any adult would know not to buy illegal substances with a check. just like the senetor who paid his prostitute with a check.

Lazy, dumb, athlete - who thought he was above the law. I'm still pissed he didn't slap the ball out of Davids hand during the "miracle catch"...

The Book - False Glory - the Steve Courson story - has lots of stuff from Steelers of that era.

Whatever claims that Steve Cuorson makes in that book about winning at whatever price players had to take, it wasn't a situation where the Steelers were those 4 very legit Super Bowl champion teams year after year in succession during the 70s because the 78 and 79 teams were a number of seasons apart from when they beat the Vikings and then the Cowboys the 1st time.

As for Bradshaw admitting what he did this late into his retirement, it is something I take with a grain of salt because a person I won't name within "this" exclusive muscle-driven community told me about a program that actually aired on NBC's cable channel network MSNBC. It was one of the first few years of this 2000 decade and Bradshaw was discussing the stigma that is attached to pro sports and cheating with any competitive edge available by discussing McGwire and Sosa breaking Roger Maris home run record in the late 90's along with the unique longevity of Barry Bonds after his 73 home runs in a single season. Bradshaw also made the comparison between Baseball and pro football to the extent that when Lyle Alzado and John Matuszak's names were mentioned, he used Mike Webster as a example without directly saying he was or wasn't a victim of how Alzado as well as Matuszak were stereotyped as examples of steroid abusers who died sooner than they should have in the first place.

That's why they should make all substances legal.

If the people really want to clean up the NFL, why not do a league wide douche? The NFL wouldn't want that, and the people wouldn't want to see the product on the field after it was done.

I remember having the "Steelers pioneer steroids in NFL" discussion about a year or two ago, when former New Orleans coach mentioned it, and made some headlines.

Let me say this....if the Steelers did indeed pioneer roid use, well, how long do you think it took before the rest of the league caught up? My guess? Not very long.
HAHA, RON.....
