tito with affliction bad for ufc?
« on: August 05, 2008, 06:58:54 PM »
Tito Ortiz believes he is in line to become the highest paid MMA fighter in history when a "ground-breaking" deal between the free-agent fighter and Affliction is announced as early as Wednesday during a press conference for Affliction's next card, which will be held Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

"I guarantee you that my contract will be like no other," said Ortiz, who wouldn't reveal the specifics of the proposed deal but was still fielding calls from rival promotions EliteXC and the American Fight League on Tuesday. "It will be a ground-breaking record contract for sure, without a doubt. There's so much money to be made right now in mixed martial arts and it's all about the fighters trying to make that money. It's going to be a long-term deal where I put my heart and soul into the company and help build them. That's something I'm interested in doing. They're going to bring me on, not just as a fighter but also doing some of the back work also."

what dos this mean for the ufc?

That's great news for UFC because Affliction will have a money problem leading to their early death.

Tito might draw a crowd, but he also needs to start winning, he has 2 losses and 1 draw in his last 3 fights. And his two wins against Ken Shamrock wasn't much to celebrate either.

I believe that rumor is that he will fight Renato Sobral. I am sure there is no sweat off the backs' of the UFC. If he loses then he might get a second fight with Affliction. After that loss........... done......

Absolutely right.  Affliction is going about things the wrong way.  They are going to spend themselves right out of business.  Paying Tim Sylvia 800,000?  Giving a fast-fading Tito a "record" deal?

The only way an organization will have longevity will be if they build from the ground up, like the WEC did.  Get young fighters, build up your roster.  Put on good productions and slowly build a fan base while you MAKE A PROFIT.

Giving Tito a "good deal" has Trump influence written all over it. It's no secret that Trump and Tito became buds after celebrity apprentice.

Yeah, I remember reading an article on an interview with Trump. He did praise Tito as a friend and a well rounded fighter. Then he went on to say that the Affliction/Ortiz deal isn't really a huge deal to him. I guess that is because Trump's type of "deals" usually consist of millions of dollars, or for that matter the multi billion dollar buildings he is currently generating. Trump is indeed a businessman's businessman.

If Tito would have ever learned to throw hands from standing he would have been amazing.  And his arms are too short.
