Camaro
« on: September 06, 2008, 06:56:13 PM »
I kinda miss having a Camaro.  I had a 1985 z-28 and I think I want another Camaro.  Thinking about getting a 2001-2002, somewhere around there.  I know they're bringing it back in 2010 but I can't put out that much cash.

The V8 will be limited. Mustang will have a Twin Turbo V6 and V8

Did they move it back?  I thought it was coming out sooner.

The LS1 (98-02 Z28's and SS's) is an excellent motor.  Do not get the LT1 (93-97 Z28's and SS's) as the motor tends to blow gaskets.  You can dump $4000 into an LS1 and have 400rwhp.

Prolbem is there all pigs. It seems like all of the 90's sports cars suffer from bloat. The Supra, Camaro, 300 ZX TT, Mitsu 3000GT, all hefty cars. And hell, try and find a unmolested Supra is like trying to find a virgin in a whorehouse.

Curb weight on a camaro is about 3400 lbs.  That isn't bad especially considering the torque modern V-8's put out and that the new GTO's, Chargers, Challengers, Mustangs, etc are all much closer or over 4000 lbs.

Hell yeah, man the new charger is a porker, and the GT500 (KR's as well) are almost 4,000 pounds. Makes no damn sense. And waht still makes no sense is that a Lexus IS350 will beat a Mustang GT at the light , and a IS-F will beat a Mustang GT500 at the light, and they almost weigh the same, but the Mustang has what, 500-550 HP.  I think the new Camaro will probably blow alot of the comp. out the water. The weight  you stated was that for the last gen Camaro, and didn't it have what 325 HP, about the same as the Supra?

I firmly believe that as long as the Mustang has been out, it should have already been developed to take out M3's by now, I know that if it was developed by Ford of Europe it would.

Yeah the 98-02 SS Camaros and WS6 Trans Ams had 325.  Awesome cars with great potential.

Mustang GT's are underpowered and have been for years.  I had a 95 Z28 with a few minor bolt-ons and I would whip mustangs daily even the newer models.

Now I drive an 03 Mach 1 with a few bolt-ons and I can hang with M3's easy.  The Mach 1 is what the GT should have been from the beginning.. ENTRY LEVEL.

The GT500 will beat the IS-F by a few fractions of a second but you're right that it shouldn't be nearly that close.

I'd totally go with the 85 IROC if I were you.

Grow out the mullet. Get the V-8 and the spoiler, that way you can really open up as you wait in frount of the local Jr. High for your gf to get out.

And dude, get some bitchin 12"ers with the mad base so you can crank the Thunder 100 Z-Rock Power Hour.....

ROCK ON BRUTHA!!!!!

Huge fan of the first gen camaros, but I like the 68 best.  I like the rounded fender wells much better than the 69 and I'm one of the few who didn't care for the very popular grill change in 69.  The 67 and 68 just have way more classic lines IMO.  But I would still happily own a 69, not to dog it that much.

That is a beautiful car.  My 67 Bird was great.  Everyone that saw it going down the road loved it no matter how old they were

one thing I agree with in this thread is that all these new cars coming out are vastly over weight.

Anyone of the most recent GTOs with a Magnusson supercharger or an ATI supercharger some exhaust work, and some reprogramming  are capable of around 600 rwhp and 11 second time slips. Not bad for a porky Holden

When I moved back to LA to train for the 2000 Olympics I left the car in my friends care.  It was parked on the street.  I kept it so when I came back I would still have it.  So I didn't think much about it then about 6 month or so I called him about it.  He avoided answering me directly my questions.  I ended up calling an ex and she went by and said it was gone.  When I asked him about it he finally said it got towed.  He said it had more than 4 or 5 months of storage fees or some shit like that.  By the time I called the yard it was sold.  I was so pissed it was unreal. Believe me I would have never got rid of that car.

I've owned 3 F-cars... an '85 Trans Am with a 383 stroker(stolen, found with the motor blown).  I also had an '01 white Z-28 with just bolt-ons.  My current car is an '01 Pewter Trans Am....AFR heads, G5X2 cam, all bolt ons, forged internals(pistons, rods, crankshaft), true duals with dumps, 150 TNT Wet Shot, formerly had a TNT 150 dry shot on top of that, battery relocated to the back, Moser 12 bolt rear, 3.73 gears, 3200 stall, Stg. 3 4l60E(still a piece of shit), lca's, some suspension, and a bit of weight reduction.

I've always liked the LS-series motors over the modular Fords.  The only big thing I'm a fan of from Ford is their 5.0 motors.  Other than that, Ford goes the cheap way of adding power:  superchargers and soon turbos.  Lame.  Plus, every grandma and grand-daughter has a mustang.
