UFC 90 discussions *Spoiler*
« on: October 26, 2008, 04:48:55 PM »
i was gone most of the weekend so didnt get to see it but ive watched the fights now - some great fights on that card!!

werdum getting knocked out who saw that coming?! i was wondering how the hell they would let a guy debute against werdum and he ends up knocking him out  :D i noticed werdum put some weight on for that fight.

sherk vs griffin was a great fight too, all action 3 rounds. sherk can take a hit! griffin is one strong mofo, hard to take down.

alves vs koscheck was awesome too, alves is a beast! some of the best kicks in the business. he lacks the killer instinct otherwise he would've gone after josh and knocked him out rather than letting him off and rest enough to get back. josh is a beast too, he took a lot of punishment but didnt stop. he would've had to get alves too the ground but alves is too strong.

some good money to be made if one would've put some real bets on last nights show...

Fabricio Werdum    -600
Junior Dos Santos    +450

Agree with you on everything.

Griffin's got potential, but he's a bit too short to ever be a real title contender IMO. It worked out fine with Sherk, since he's short as hell as well.

But in the future reach could be an issue for Griffin. But awesome hands, and how about those low kicks!

Actually I thought Koscheck did much better then expected. Alves just overpowered him, but he managed to survive, and showed that he's got a lot of heart. Very impressive performance against a future title contender.

i wonder how much thiago alves weigh? he looks so big for his weight class, is he one of those guys that drops a lot of weight before weigh ins and put it back on? he's a beast. josh could hardly move him!

his fight record is brutal

in his last 10 fights he has 2 decision wins,  6 tkos, 1 ko and 1 loss (jon fitch)

josh really turned his game around, he's 30 years old i didnt think he could change it up as much this late in the game... people used to call him "the blanket" but these days he stands and trades punches and kicks with the best of them like he's never done anything else... and he's a wrestler!
but unfortunately unless he manages to get the takedowns he will lose against someone like alves who got a better stand up at the end of the day. i used to sleep when josh was fighting, these days he's one of the more exciting fighters out there, always giving it 100%
alves got some brutal kicks, imagine someone going 5 rounds and eating those kicks... lightning fast and so hard that they made josh spin around a couple of times from the power!
a lot of people throw kicks in the ufc but not that accurate, fast and with that kinda power... thats how you do it.

some GREAT matchups in that ufc show.

i was disappointed with silvas performance. some people in the crowd where booing him. add to that all his talk about quitting mma altogether, whats his problem? people expect much more from the champ. if he continues with that attitude people will turn against him and start wishing for him to lose.
a better fighter than cote could've given him some problems that night. just as travis lutter gave him some problems when they fought. hes not unbeatable.

"I was in the best shape of my life, I was ready to go and I think that I proved to everybody that this guy’s not unbeatable. I think I fucked him up really bad. My game plan was good and I think he was scared to exchange with me. I received all his best punches and all his best knees and I was still there."
- Cote

hold on now, ive seen silva fight and that wasnt his best punches and best knees! lets not get carried away now cote!  :D

“I was very impressed by the performance of Thiago Alves he showed everybody why he belongs in the top fighters in the welterweight division. Of course, it’s up to the UFC, but I think he will be one of my next opponents pretty soon.” - gsp

I dunno- Silva looked like he was half asleep and didnt take Cote seriously at all and still won with ease. I dont think he should fight at 185 anymore at all. In 205 you have the best of the best UFC has to offer. I think if he fights in that weight class he will have more of a challenge and put forth a more inspired performance.

I feel like Silva is a complete asshole now.

People paid good money to see him make a highlight real out of Cote, not sit there and put on a defensive sparring session. i'm sure Cote appreciated the clinic, but the fans booed Silva because he simply backed out 90% of the fight. He didn't even try and the show boating does not belong in professional fighting.

Silva could have knocked Cote out in the first round with zero effort.

Very disappointed in the main event, but the other fights made up for the disappointment.

True, that was a great punch. But I speak of Werdum being fat for this fight, meaning he didnt take the fight seroius.

Oh yes, he put on some weight and not in a good way... he kinda reminds me of Peter Aerts who carries some extra weight to hang with the big boys in K-1... only in K-1 it makes more sense than in the UFC and I don't think it will benefit Werdum....
