Kauai or Riveria Maya for honeymoon next summer?
« on: December 01, 2008, 03:43:56 PM »
Can anyone shed some light on either places?  I've heard both are great.  My brother says Kauai is beautiful.  Also with all the violence and kidnappings going on in Mexico how safe are the tourist towns?  My fiance and I are planning on eloping and getting married at an all inclusive resort with family.  Cost isn't really an issue since anywhere will be cheaper than a big wedding.  Thanks for any input/advice!

How long are you going if you go to Kauai.  I have been there maybe 30 times.  I only went for weekends and it was mostly just to get away and do nothing.  There is NO night life there.  Very very beautiful place but still kind of boring.  Went there the weekend right after Iniki hit and brought my daughters and that was interesting.  If you hike it is fun too.  Golf in Princeville is nice.  Eat at JJ's Broiler and say hi to Rich. He is the owner of the restaurant and the shopping center it is in (Anchor Cove).  Charo had a great mexican restaurant in Hanalei but not sure if it is still there.  Defintiely hike down to Waimea Canyon (Grand Canyon of the Pacific).  Kokee is also there and is the wettest place on earth.  Barking Sands is a great place to hang on the beach and not many people there.  I think I would rather go to Mexico but go somewhere touristy and alot of americans.  Like you said the problems down there are serious now.

Thanks onlyme.  Yeah the situation in Mexico is crazy but it sounds like the tourist areas are safe on that side of the country but hell you never know.  Also I heard a lot of the beaches on the Cancun side took a pretty big hit last storm they had.  Is Kauai really expensive compared to an all inclusive in Mexico?

Yes it is expensive.  Not to many middle of the road hotels.  Mostly resorts that range from $200 to $500 a night for a regular room.  Suites are of course more. It is very beautiful there though.  And you can take the Captain Zodiac to the other side of the island.  If you like to hike Kauai is really good.
