Dan Henderson and Wanderlai
« on: December 17, 2008, 07:41:36 AM »
I admit I have only been following MMA closely for a year and change so I am not that keen on history. But I cannot believe Henderon KO'd Silva with a spinning back fist while they were in Pride. That may have been the craziest KO I have ever seen. Also, I saw a preview for the next UFC card on video on demand where they briefly interview Silva. I know fighters aren't supposed to be beauty pagent contestants but jesus christ- Silva looks like he is deformed from being hit in the face so many times- He honestly looks like hes wearing a halloween mask or something.

One thing that became apparent to me watching that video is how much better Anderson Silva is than everybody else and how hard it is to differentiate who is better than who in terms of ranking fighters. Silva destroyed Henderson. Henderson KO'd Wanderlei. Rampage beat Henderson. Wanderlei owned Rampage twice. Granted this happened across two different weight classes but still- I think Anderson would dominate at 205.

I think that Anderson is still to small to dominate at 205. Against bigger guys I think that he would get owned. some of the 205's walk around at 215-220. Anderson doesn't cut at all and walks around at 205 if I am not mistaken. His striking is pin point and he has great ground game (which we rarely see), but I don't think Anderson would  be able to fight all the time at 205 and be as dominate.

Regarding Anderson....I've been on his bandwagon long ago but the guy is being overrated terribly. The 185 pound division sucks....simple as that. Credit to Anderson though for treating those fighters like that. But he will not dominate at 205, he will get owned soon.

I tend to agree with this... where has he been REALLY tested?  Henderson?  That match lasted quite awhile....

See I think him being a natural 205 is a big reason why he will dominate. If you walk around at your fighting weight, you dont have to cut or bulk or put any added stress on your body. The bigger guys have it much tougher imo. If they have to fight at the same weight, what difference does it make how much they walk around at when not training? Pointing to boxing, its a big reason why Bernard Hopkins is still a pretty good fighter at age 45.

Also with regard to Silva not being tested- I agree, the 185lb weight class is pathetic. However, as I noted above, Henderson owned Wanderlei and Wanderlei destroyed Rampage twice who destroyed Chuck Lidell. Henderson didnt get out of the second round against Silva, and Silva was the first guy in history to submit Henderson. I think Anderson will have a tougher time at 205 because its the deepest weight class in the UFC, however, I dont think it matters- I still believe he would beat most of those guys pretty soundly.

It's gonna take a wrestler of high caliber who can take Anderson down, and keep him there.  Lutter, Hendo all got him to the mat.  If people stand with him, he will eventually catch them.  He will do well in 205.  Mark my words.

with all this awesome new talent coming up from tuf and smaller shows eventually a guys gonna come along with andersons number,i cant see anderson going the next 2 years unbeaten providing hes fighting TOP NOTCH OPPOSITION.if they feed him cans ofcoarse hell win but im talking about fighting guys like evans, forest, wandy, jardine ect.i think jardine would match up well with anderson,it would be a sick fight imo cause jardine pushes the pace and makes people work.i like anderson and think hes a very cool guy as well as awesome fighter but in this game theres always someone waiting in the wings who got your number, ive been following the ufc since #1 and never seen anyone stay undefeated

i was thinking the same thing about anderson being overrated but they started telling me off lol

but yeah anderson hasnt had any good challenges. when he was fighting overseas he was losing and then when he enters ufc he is dominant.

if he fights hendo again at 205 i think he will beat silva

I guy like Arona would take a nap on Anderson, on his way to a decision win.

I think Jardines is the most boring and untalented fighter to ever hold a belt in the UFC in recent memory (outside of Tim SYlvia). His fight against the axe murderer demonstrated exactly what a chump he is. I dont think he would last more than 2 rounds with Silva, and if he did it would be because he'd lay on top of him and deliver gay looking shoulder checks for 3 minutes. I honestly hate watching him fight. That Brandon Vera fight ( which I felt Brandon won) was a sterling example of how awful a fighter he is to watch. Its not even like Machida, who is a tactician and is skilled in what he does- Jardines just moves forward jerking his head around akwardly and throws wild bombs that occasionally connect and he wrestles like hes drowning in mud- he applies pressure without doing anything or attempting any submissions until the round is over.

Jardine held a belt?
