The REASON why Wand lost.....
« on: December 29, 2008, 08:59:27 AM »
.....he doesnt fight SMART. Same reason Chuck got himself KO'd by Rashad. Too much bravado by both men.....and NOTHING wrong with that.

Wand planting his feet and winging punches in front of guy with pop on his punches is a recipe for disaster. HE...Wand is the better fighter standing UP....this is not BOXING fellas...its kickboxing/muaythai etc. Wand let Rampage off the hook....Rampage still doesnt know how to defend leg kicks....his striking is nothing more than riding punches and countering off that. All Wand had to was leg kick him and take a step back and THEN wing punches....cause Page would be off balance.....kinda like the time he buzzed him in the 2nd bout leading to the KO. Some might say he always winged his punches and it was a matter of time before he got caught....TRUE but Wand had amazing handspeed in hiss hayday.....you couldnt react to that....I remember Rampage after the first lost said I wasnt ready for that kind of SPEED. Look at Wands fights with Hendo, Kondo, CroCop 1 fight and Hunt....look at his handspeed. As fighters grow old like Wand they cant get away with that stuff anymore.

Wand's career will be like the great Roberto Duran's career at the end of his....a couple losses here and there...and a flashback once in awhile.

reason he lost is he got caught and maybe he doesnt have that much of a chin that people think he does. koed by crocop, koed by hendo, keoed by rampage. thats 3 bigtime ko's in his last 5 fights. im surprised he gets permission by doctors to fight at all.
and with 4 losses in 5 fights its pretty obvious the old wand is gone. at this stage in the game there's not much he can do.

Yeah but he is still fun to watch and he is a hell of a nice guy.

We saw him the next day and he actually sat down and talked with my family and I for 10 minutes and took a bunch of pics. He is a true sportsmen. He told us that he doesn't think he will be a world champion because he is past his time he said so now he fights for the crowd and the fans. He doesn't want any boring fights and he wants to pump up the crowd. Other fighters can have boring decisions he said he just wants fans to remember him for giving it all even if he gets knocked out. This way the crowd will get to see a KO. I was like wow after he said that. Not many other fighters would.

After spending what little time we had with him my opinion of him has changed. Here is a guy who has been on the top of the sport and knows he will never be there again yet he still wants to fight even if he loses for the fans. He said he had enough money he doesn't need to fight. Wandy is cool in my book.

Now we also got to see Kongo as well. He is a fucking prick. Let me rephrase that an arrogant prick. I was very unimpressed with his manners.

Thats why I've been hugging him since his IVC days.....the Mariano fight made me a fan! Hopefully he fights fighters with no punching power from now on.....cause I see alot of KOs losses in his future.

That's big Nog you are referring to.  He was run over by a truck at age 11.

tito ortiz knocked wandy down with a nice shot on the chin when they fought for the vacant title in ufc japan, and lets be real here,i cant remember the last time tito knocked somebody down from the stand up.wands chin is not as good as people make it out to be,the thing that saved him was that he recovered fast from a knockdown.theres nothing wrong with standing by your fighter when he losses, but just keep it real, even wandy admitted rampage has good skill and threw a sweet hook and caught him.in his post fight interveiw he was asked if rampage was lucky and wandy said no,he aint makin excuses so i dont think it looks to good when his fans try to make excuses for him.i like wandy, ive always enjoyed his fights and liked him as a person but all fighters lose at some point, wandy goes out to entertain the fans and youll never see a boring fight when hes in the cage.im not counting him out cause hes a tough guy but if he wants to be on top again he should sharpen up his boxing alittle, start throwing straighter punches and use more foot and head movement.when he was younger he used to get away with some of those flaws cause of his speed, but age is knockin at his door and hes gonna have to make a few small adjustments to stay competetive in that weight class.imo he will always be remembered as one of the toughest/aggressive guys ever to step foot in a mma ring/cage.

His humility is one of the reasons I like him.  He got beat, plain and simple.

I am not making excuses Rampage won....simple as that because HE is the smarter and better fighter at this time. I just made my point on the MAIN reason he lost. Yes Wand got dropped by Tito, he would charge fighters with no POP cause he didnt respect their power. Sak dropped him, Tamura did...and he laughed...another can dropped him as well. And the Wand that fight Tito was a skinny and wild brawler....when Wand took his vitimans, he's coming out party was the first Hendo fight. THAT Wand was the start of his Prime.....

Hummm... the solution is to put him fighting armless guys... I like his bravery, but that's it... no intelligence... Stronger and heavier guys will overpower him for sure...

And herein lies the problem.  Facing smaller Japanese fighters, he could impose his will, use the clinch to adimister knees, and KICK DOWNED opponents.  (Yuki Kondo comes to mind)  His striking has never been precise.  Shogun was the sharper striker out of CB.  I think he needs a revamp, and someone to watch film for him and come up with gameplans to deal with the top fighters.  In his "coming out party" Hendo dropped him as well.

Shogun has no hands and the power on those knees that Wand had. The Rua bros got to be the worst punchers in MMA...they push punch....no real power. When Shogun beat Wands leftovers, he couldnt even inflict real damage....he broke that rib YES and Rampage was done. Shit when Shogun soccer kicked Rampage...Rampage was all cool about it....he wasnt even buzzed....he was having a convo to stop the fight. Dont forget Rampage looked like shit against Ninja...a fight to couldve went his way.

Yes Hendo dropped him...thats what great fighters do. Hendo was undefeated in MMA and had that win over Nog coming into the bout. Hendo did rocked his world....but Wand embarrassed him most if not all of that bout. Stuffing his takedowns....stomping him...mounting him....laughing...thumbs up...etc.

Because you get   knock down  doesn't mean you don't have a good chin.

true, but when guys who never knock no one down start knocking a fighter down its time to really question that fighters chin.i was using tito as an example to make my point, lets be real, tito has never been known to have great punching power, hard elbow strikes from the gnp and good takedowns but not punching power.
