UFC announces "UFC 94: St. Pierre vs. Penn" is sold out
« on: January 14, 2009, 01:23:51 PM »
The upcoming UFC event headlined by a mega-fight between UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn has sold out.

"UFC 94: St. Pierre vs. Penn" takes place Jan. 31 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. More than 14,000 attendees are expected for the pay-per-view event.

The event puts St. Pierre's welterweight title on the line, and Penn could become the first-ever fighter to hold two UFC title simultaneously with a victory.

(Although the UFC today announced the event is sold out, as of Wednesday morning, some single tickets are available in a variety of seating sections. However, you'll be hard pressed to find a pair of tickets for adjacent seats in any sections.)

In addition to St. Pierre vs. Penn, the SuperBowl-weekend card also features televised bouts of Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva, Stephan Bonnar vs. Jon Jones, Karo Parisyan vs. Dong Hyun Kim and Nate Diaz vs. Clay Guida.

To hype a main event UFC President Dana White has called "epic," Spike TV will roll out "UFC Primetime: St. Pierre vs. Penn," a three-part preview series that cost nearly $2 million to produce. Beginning tonight, the series airs each Wednesday night at 10 p.m. EST/PST on Spike TV. (See a sneak peak of the series.)

Has anybody watched the first episode of the GSP-Penn pre-fight on Spike?

Man BJ comes off cocky as hell. Kind of prickish in a way. Anyone notice Dana isn't calling GSP to see if he is training?

I have always loved BJ. One of my favorite fighters. I feel he is on a whole 'nother level, but right now, GSP has binoculars looking down trying to see him. My personal opinion is GSP has evolved and has gotten better (minus the 1st Serra encounter, which coincidentally is the best thing that has ever happened to him)  while BJ has not improved as drastically as Rush has.

I have always loved "The Prodigy" but I think he called out the wrong guy. GSP will make him wish he stayed at lightweight and got his handed to him by Florian.

My .02........

Thoughts?

I tend to agree... BJ is a cocky prick (not that i know him personally, but just the opinion i've formed).  GSP HAS evolved and I think will actually dominate in this fight.  I'm pulling for him.

It is ridiculous to discount BJ's talent. He, in many ways, is the epitome of the modern warrior.  That being said, GSP is, well... just better.  And he is even bigger and stronger than he was in their last meeting.  GSP looked the worse for wear, but it was not as close as that would make it seem.  Look for BJ to get dominated.

BJ isnt going to have the reach advantage he had over Sherk and, in reality, Sean was scared of BJ, and GSP wont be.  After losing by RNC to BJ in their first fight, Hughes dominated him in the stand up, which GSP will do, and GSP is way better on the ground that Matt is, so don't look for BJ to catch GSP on the ground either.

Funny thing is a few minutes ago my daughter and wife and I watched the latest UFC unleashed that we had recorded on the DVR and they showed their first fight again.

It's funny to see that eye poke again and see how GSP's face got banged up a bit yet he still pushed the fight more and did not give up.

While GSP looked more banged up for sure, he did push the pace more and those take downs and the 2 successful take down defenses solidified the win in my opinion.

Funny thing is GSP did not look that good in their first fight. Nowadays however he just gets better with every showing.

I think you guys (coltrane and Dbal) are right on in your evaluations. I can't wait for the fight. Should be great. I wonder when (or if) BJ loses what his excuse will be? Remember how he called Hughes a "Pussy" when he fought GSP the last time. I can't wait to hear the aftermath.

X2. SCSG has been adding a lot of good content to this board. I don't comment much, but I read most of it. Good stuff.
