Is it REALLY that big a deal? Hear me out... There are 305 million americans. Maybe 100k of them work (ignoring children and retirees).
A little less than 4% of them lost their job. I know, it sucks. But it's less than 1 in 25. Maybe this is just economic darwinism. If you put 25 people in a room, and YOU are the least educated and trained in a marketable field, you don't get a job. Listen, if 24 people in that room can do a job better than me, then maybe it serves me AND the nation better if the 24 of them go to work tomorrow, and me, the lowest of the bunch, goes back to school for a bit?
BTW,
Obama said today that we lost 3.6 million jobs, and that his new plan will lead to the creation of 3 mil jobs over 2 years. If it will, that's pretty good. We may disagree on the importance of some of the fields where ppl will be working (std prevention and the arts, etc), but they won't be collecting unemployment at least.
