coffee
« on: February 07, 2009, 01:33:05 AM »
I've been drinking coffee for around a year and really like having a cup in the morning. I originally was used to having it with milk and sugar. The place across the street was giving me 3 scoops of sugar, but I've cut back to just 1 scoop. I have been considering getting some sugar replacement like Splenda to use myself instead of regular sugar... worth it? Also would it make a big difference if I just got the coffee black and brought it in and used my own skim milk? Any other, better option? Black coffee is just way too bitter for me.

Thanks!

Oh and if it matters, I am aiming to lose weight... have lost about 15 pounds from 245 to 230 since new years ( I'm 6'3'' ) and looking to get to 210 or possibly lower.

What is a SCOOP?  1 measured teaspoon is about 20 calories and about as many carbs.  Of course use skim milk or maybe some of that powdered non-dairy creamer.  Sounds like you can cut out about another 75-100 calories / day which could add up to about another pound a month.

How about:

1/2 tsp "No Sugar Added" hot cocoa powder
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1 - 2 packets of Splenda

And use good coffee, like Seattle's Best or 100% Colombian coffee(any brand or even off brand).

I make my coffee the night before refrigerate and then mix with vanilla protein powder. It makes a pretty good ice coffee better then Starbucks

20 calories and ANOTHER 20g carbs?
Or did you mean 20g of carbs while a total teaspoon of sugar has 20cals?
Because the 20g of carbs alone is 80cals....

I'm sort of confused, and not sure what you meant. :)

i've done this too but added milk to mine and makes for a great tasting morning shake.. however i have heard that drinking coffee when it's hot only provides the stimulant effects, don't know if it's true or not? i didn't notice the difference

Yah, that is confusing the way I worded it  :-\ sorry
1 teaspoon of sugar is around ~15-25 carb calories depending on how you measure (heaping or not) which is approx. ~4-6 grams of carbs.

I think caffeine causes me to breakout....so I've switched to decaf.
But I'm still not sure if it was the cause.

Anyone else notice this?

I get the same thing.  eventually I have to ditch coffee and switch over to water and Noexplode.  Coffee is very acidic therefore your body reacts to it when its trying to remove it from your sytem via the poors in your skin.

I've found decaf still gives a slight buzz but doesn't cause any breakouts.
Coffee itself I've read is good for the skin.
The feeling from drinking coffee is not just from the caffeine but also from the coffee beans itself.

But I've only been on decaf for a few weeks so I have to see how this goes but so far so good.
