It's an absolutely gorgeous country, Gene - very friendly and laid back. NZ's population is only a little more than 4 million and a third of those people live in the biggest city here, which is the one I also live in - Auckland.

NZ is isolated geographically and it's South Island is quite close to Antarctica, so it's a lot colder than the very hot Australia. You'd love it here - there are tons of beaches everywhere and it's not a very expensive place to visit. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll answer them in turn.

Here are some pics to give you an idea - just got them off Google, of course

Dear Kiwi,
Gorgeous pics.  Do tourists ever ask you how to get to Mordor?

The rain forests are mostly in the South Island. I do live very close to a whole lot of nice beaches though. University isn't free, but you can get a student loan to pay for whatever course you want to do (as long as the University accepts you) and you also get a student allowance for your expenses. The loan has to be paid back after you graduate, which isn't an easy thing to do for most students, cause the wages aren't very good here for most jobs.

Dear STella, they most certainly do and my answer depends on my mood. If I'm in a good mood, I give it to them straight up (3 blocks down, take a left after the hospital and it's on the other side of the road) but if I'm in a bad mood, I just rat them annoying f*cks out to Sauron.
