« on: April 15, 2009, 05:54:54 PM »
i was thinking when the government "lent" GM  those 4 billion dollars..
why didnt they instead purchase 4 billion dollars worth of  government vehicles

the joke runs this way:

the bailout helps GM get back into the green
GM makes money, pays government back with interest
everyone stays employed at GM, tax revenue comes in.

GM will never do well because of their unionized workers who're guaranteed job bank pay after being layed off and professional type paychecks despite being line workers with GEDs.

This country has lost its base and it isn't because of mexicans but these stupidass fucks in middle America and the south. They are completely and utterly useless and their life's ambition is to wield an assault rifle in Iraq for a meaningless war. Sad, but true.

GM needs to spin off a new company that consists of the Chevy and Cadillac brands. Then the existing GM can file Chapter 7 and just liquidate Saab, Saturn, Hummer, GMC, Buick, and Pontiac.

we have a winner.  Unions negotiated $75 an hour salary for guys with high school eduation leaning on an assembly line.  The retirement payments/pensions of 50 years of cumulative over-paying is catching them now.

They weren't worth the salary, but strong-armed mgmt into paying them that much.  Looks like they might end up seeing justice if their pension disappears when the company crashes.

Before GM ruined Saab it was among the most popular "luxury" vehicles out there.  Hummer, is a niche brand.....(good styling just need better engineering) and Pontiac and Buick can be reworked.  Buick has a core of older buyers.  Pontiac can be made cool again if it's done right.

People forget that Toyota, Honda, Acura, Lexus - etc, were a fucking joke 25 years ago.

I actually like Saab vehicles quite a bit; they just weren't marketed well at all by GM. They are losing too much money on Hummer to try and make it work; plus the brand just carries the stigma of being the ultimate gas guzzler. They need to just try and take what they can get and sell it off. The problem with Buick is that almost all of its customers are starting to die off (literally). I say they take the top 1 or 2 Buick models and just rebrand them as Cadillac. I think Pontiac is pretty much done for too. Maybe just keep one or two models, such as the G8, and have it be more of a niche brand. Saturn also definitely needs to go too. They just have way too many brands to support and effectively market.

GMC, Buick, Cadillac, and Chevy was their plan from a few weeks ago, but it was rejected by the Obama administration. They said deeper concessions were needed, so word now is that it will just be Chevy and Cadillac.

Gm was using Saturn to inroduce their far supeior Opel line. Well, that gone up in smoke with Saturn being posilbe bought up by an investment group
