So, because they have a high payroll, one of their pitchers should never get shelled?   Baseball doesn't work that way.  In addition to Wang, We've seen Lincecum, Webb, Peavy, Lee, Lester, etc all get roughed up badly this year.  It happens.

Anyway, over 25% (50+ million) of that payroll is paid to players from their farm system who developed into elite level talent.  They've paid what they had to to keep them Yankees for their whole career, a rarity these days.

that organization from top to bottom is in disarray. cant build a stadium correctly with all the money they spent, thats sad. people cant even see home plate from some seats. highest payroll in the league, financing one dimensional past their prime players.

Explain the disarray of the organization.  There is none.

Who is one dimensional and past their prime that they're "financing"?

Sounds like typical anti-Yankee talking points that have little substance.

With their payroll and hitters they should lose very few games.  They try to buy, rather than develop, pitching and that never works for them.  Their only consistent pitcher is Rivera for maybe one inning a game.  They have all these power hitters yet they can't even save them anymore.  It's like I tell people, George buys all-stars, not a team.  Compare Tampa Bay to NY; small pay roll and almost winning a World Series.  Then you have the colossal mistake of getting rid of Torre, which is the Dodgers' gain.  Torre wasn't the problem in NY, the prima donnas on that team are.

I don't know why you're highlighting A-Rod's salary when the dude hasn't taken one swing in a real game yet.  ::)

The Sox and Mets have salaries similar to ours and are doing just as shitty. Once A-Rod comes back and these pitchers hit their groove (which you know they will), Wang fixes w/e the fuck is going on with his motion, things will be peachy.

Yankees >$50mil than sox and mets....The reason i highlighted his money is because his salary damn near makes up the whole payroll for the marlins...

If that Marlins sustain anything close to their start I'll drink a bottle of bleach and shoot myself in the face. No way they do it.

Take away A-Rod's salary (who isn't even playing right now) and the Yanks are right in the Mets and Sox range.

Yeah, but once A-Rod comes back and Wang straightens out it will be smooth sailing. If he can't win with that lineup then he deserves to be canned.

Girardi agreed to a 3 year deal I believe. Not a fan of Cox, though. I'd rather see Big Lou.

Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Pettitte and Wang all came from the farm system.   There's over 50 million for Jeter, Rivera, and Posada.  Those are players who were paid market value for being at an elite level.

The club is in shambles?  They're 7-6 and about to replace Cody Ransom with Alex Rodriquez.  The only pitcher struggling is Wang, and they have the depth to replace him, if necessary.   Hardly a team in shambles.

This is untrue.  Even the best hitters and pitchers in the game go through slumps.  A .300 hitter may hit .150 for two weeks.   That's why the elite teams in baseball still lose 65+ games a year.

They don't abandon development of pitchers and just buy them.  That's nonsense.  3/5 of their starting rotation is from the minor leagues.  All these power hitters?  Who?

Your comparison of TB to NY is completely flawed.  Tampa Bay outperformed NY for ONE YEAR, while the Yankees made the playoffs every year for a 13 year span, making 6 WS and winning 4, and being one inning away from winning 5.

How did TB get there?  They sucked so bad for 10 years that they constantly had the highest draft picks.  Now guys like Longoria, Upton, Crawford etc are all hitting their strides.   That is hardly the model any team wants to follow.

You're wrong about Torre as well.  Torre had run his course in NY.  He had horrible bullpen management, which most likely cost the Yankees in '03 AND '04.  He didn't pull his team off the field when the bugs came.  He stuck with veterans who were past their prime, never trusting newer talent who had not "earned his trust".  He was not a very good in game manager after '02.

I would love to bash the Yanks, but I know the second I do that 4 months from now they will be one game out chasing the sox for the pennant.

The same reason I didn't bash the sox when they were 3-6 with bad starts from a bunch of their pitchers.  Boston, TB, and NY are going to be in a dogfight all year.  It doesn't help that the O's actually do have a decent lineup, and Toronto is hot.
