Iraq tells US to leave in 54 days
« on: May 05, 2009, 12:04:54 AM »
Today, the Iraqi government announced the would refuse to allow US troops to remain in Iraq past June 30 (54 days).

Normally I would expect the US to say "too bad, we invaded your country, we'll do what we want", but Obama's military policy/strategy/durability on Iraq is an unknown.

Is Iraq posturing, taking advantage of Obama's policy of unprecedented appeasement of the Middle East?

Or will Iraq really attempt to enforce the US withdrawl by June 30 (54 days)?

That schedule seems so accelerated as to be unachieveable.

Obama doesn't seem inclined to spend the time or have the stomach to stay in Iraq for the LR (greater than 12 months), and many times during the campaign he stated he wanted to be out of Iraq in early 2009.

Was this on the news today 240?  I haven't heard this yet.
It seems the Iraqi gov likes to posture to show they have control, but really want us there to back them up with military power.
Most vets who were over there consistantly paint a different picture than our media has.  They say most of the people loved the soldiers and they were extremely oppressed under Sadam.  I have also heard its a very backward country where many didn't have electricity and any conveniences we would consider necessary.  Many are also blinded by strict muslim religion.

Al-Maliki has to say something to keep the fringe elements to support his gov, from causing problems. We're out of most of the cities now. We control Iraq's airspace but we can't conduct raids like we used to. U need a warrant now, and soon we will have to get permission to leave the FOBS. The Iraqi military can't control Mosul so we're still active there, and the Kurds love us and don't want us to leave. We're not doing alot now. Our SOF forces can pretty much do what they want, but conventionally, not so much. I should have a very easy year there.

Best wishes and be safe HH6.

I have talked to quite a few vets that have been over there.  The media paints the picture that fits their ideology.  Dead is real reporting these days...from MSMBC to fox to CNN, there is just too much bias.  Journalism should be about facts, not gathering data to support your political ideology.  Editorials and shows like Olberman and Beck are fine, but they should be complimentary to the main news shows, which should be unbiased.  CNN, who we hope for neutrality, has crossed the line several times, including when their reporter bashed tea party attendants, instead of reporting what was going on.  Unacceptable.

Yeah...while watch Fox, I had hopes that CNN would decide to be above the BS. But they jumped down the rabbit hole and are doing horrible. I think FOX is talking about a CNN headline news type channel as well.
