I got a 2000 Ford F250 7.3 Liter Diesel..... love it, never given me any problems and it does everything I ask of it. I hope to have it for another 10 years or so.

Buying a Toyota pick up truck is the ultimate douche bag move IMO.

When I bought my first truck I talked the price down so low.  Remember, in this market, you dictate the price.  At this point, a lot of dealerships are willing to lose some money on a truck, just to get some money back.

Secondly, I learned a great trick from my dad.  Go to a dealership that does in house financing.  Go ahead and get a loan from the bank for the truck, and tell the dealership you are going to finance through them.  The dealership will be willing to go lower on the price of the car, because they will make that money back through financing.  The next day, walk into the dealership with the check from the bank, and tell the dealership thanks.

Sorry for such a long post, I have a lot more tips and tricks, just pm me if your interested.

The diesel motor is superior no doubt about it.

I have heard of diesel big rigs with well over 1 million miles that only stop just enough to get Preventive Maintenance on them. Other than that they are driving down the road, nonstop without any problems.

Found a  08' 300 for 30k and the dealership is closing..What should i offer? New ones go for 37k and dropped to 22k. I figure maybe 15k tops?

Undercut them!

bench, have you researched if there is any cash back from the manufacturer on the truck you're looking at?

Last August we bought a vehicle when gas prices were high.  We called around to diff. dealers in the state and everyone was looking to unload these vehicles.  There was $5000 cash back from the manufacturer plus we got the selling price to $1000 under invoice.   One dealership wasn't telling us about the cash back deal...at least not all of it.

Are you trading anything in?  If so, you may want to try to sell it yourself initially unless you just don't want to deal w/the hassle.  The dealer will try to "hold back" money on your trade by giving you less than what it's worth or significantly less than you could get by retailing it yourself.

If you are going to finance the vehicle, like someone said here, consider securing a loan through some other source.  If you have a good relationship w/a bank, they may be able to get you a better interest rate than what the dealership would give you.

If you have good credit, always bring your own financing.
Do not trade your current vehicle; keep it and/or sell it yourself.
You will find much better deals from domestic makers; Toyota is not hurting badly enough to offer sweet deals--especially on their trucks.  :-\
