SOME businesses yes, but generally speaking it is a love/hate relationship and not a positive one.

Where do you get the "70% approval from the Korean People"?

My apologies for asking... but I do remember reading an article a New York Times article talking about how pissed South Koreans (never mind their brothers to the north) were at the US. They did make mention of a Gallup poll talking about 65% of South Koreans wanting the "US out now".

Let me see if I can find it.

Disapproval of American troop presence is at 51% (more or less). I presume the sudden increase of support for US troops has to do with Kim's trigger-happy attitude and not our "good-hearted nature".

Is that hatred of U.S. troop presence or just the general feeling that the new generations ,that have no real connection to the past war, want foreign troops off of their soil?

I don't know. I suspect amongst ALL Koreans of all ages the discontent with American military presence is overwhelming. Methinks there is definitely something lost in translation. Koreans seem to acknowledge that, every time Kim detonates a nuke, there is a need for foreign military presence in South Korea to calm him down. At the same time they want those troops out. It's odd. It's like they're telling Kim:"look, if you make any attempt to come into our territory we will let the Americans in to get rid of you."

The major English language daily did the poll I refered to...70% approve. It had nothing to do with us leaving. We moved a Squadron of AH64 Apache's out of Korea in March. They went crazy, every time we withdraw forces, they go crazy.They weren't happy with us moving most of our stuff down south. They weren't happy with us sending 2ID forces to Iraq. The South wants us the..big money..less they used to spend on defence..a good deal for them.

It is a love/hate relationship....when we move troops out, it hurts their economy because our troops spend money there.....they don't dare ask us to leave however because then Kim would take over SK in a week without our presence there
