Anyone here had surgery (of any kind including oral)?  How long were you laid up?  How soon could you work out again?  Did you lose a lot of muscle mass? ???

I had my wisdom teeth out and could not eat properly for a few days. I just took a few days off, used the time to let my body rest, drank lots of protien shakes, and just relaxed for a few days.

i had a knee surgery in 2001.

the muscle loss depends mostly on the kind of surgery, when they have to cut through muscle tissue, a lot of the tissue dies very quick because it gets no blood anymore.

if you can't move the muscle after surgery, it will atrophy even more.

I tore my pec many years ago.

I tore it at the end of uni for the year. So i had 6 weeks of no upper body training and then 6 weeks of very limited upper body training (deadlifts and some back, arms, shoulders and very light chest).

When i went back to uni everyone said i had blown up. Had put on some fat but not a lot.

Rest does you good  ;). The body doesn't need much to break it down.
