They have a loooooong way to go to compete with Obama and his war chest.

Huckabee trails Romney, Palin in cash haul
Posted: 12:34 PM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) — Recent polls show he is among the early frontrunners for the 2012 GOP presidential bid, but when it comes to fundraising this year, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trails well behind his chief rivals.

The former Republican presidential candidate e-mailed supporters Thursday night announcing he has raised a little over $300,000 in the first six months of the year, a cash haul that is only about 20 percent of the $1.6 million former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took in the same period.

It's also about a third of what former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has raised since January. Her political action committee, SarahPAC, reported raising $730,000 through July 1, but a spokeswoman for Palin said the Alaska Republican took in an additional $200,000 in the early days of July after announcing she was stepping down as governor.

Several recent surveys — including one from CNN/Opinion Research Corp. — show Huckabee is roughly tied with Palin and Romney in an early assessment of where the 2012 Republican presidential race stands.

The more unemployment rises, the more it benefits Obama.

All he has to say in 2012 is, "I'm gonna send $2000 checks to anyone without a job".

A whole lotta broke-ass swing voters will vote (D) as a result.

I'm probably gonna support third-party Conservatives from this point on, but I've always admired Huckabee. He's pretty much the only Republican I'd even consider voting for right now. He and Beck are also the only two people on the Fox pigpen worth watching.

The landscape looks pretty bleak all around.

There are some repubs staying quiet for another 18 months before weighing the obama mess then tossing their hat into the ring.

Honestly, I think GOP and moderate voters will prefer a new face ala Bush 2000.  Do they relaly want to see palin and Romney and Rudy call each other 'liberal!' for 15 months again?  Or do they want a fresh-faced, common sense spender with a positive attitude, ala pawlenty or Huntsman?

The smart 2012 GOp candidate is being quiet for the next year and a half.  Not trying to be in the spotlight at any cost *cough runners magazine*

Whomever is going to run cannot stay quiet for the next 18 months, unless their name is Bloomberg, Perot, Forbes, etc.  There is way too much money that has to be raised.  Obama is an 800 pound gorilla from a money standpoint.

Huntsman is worth tens of millions, and I think his family worth might top a billion?

Romney is rich.  Rudy is rich.  Mccain was loaded but didn't use his own $.  IMO, using public funds is probably a thing of the past.

Rudy does not have the resources to fund his own presidential campaign and he can't get elected anyway as this past primary showed.  He's better off running for governor.  Romney is already running.

It is pretty much impossible for a candidate to wait until 2011 to start running for president and expect to raise enough money to win, when their opponent will likely have well over $500 million.

Rudy's worth 52 million, conservative estimate.  maybe up to 70 million.

Yo may be right about 2011, late-ish.  But I think the candidate can afford to work for the 2010 mid-term candidates, then bump their own campaign in Jan 2011.  They'd still have 22 months.

Dems might not have any $ left to donate to Obama in 2012.

Rudy isn't worth 52 to 70 million.  He reported assets of between 18 and 70 million.  That's not his net worth.  Even if you assume his net worth is 70 million, that's not nearly enough.

"Giuliani reported assets of between $18.1 million and $70.4 million. Because the FEC allows candidates to report assets within ranges, the actual value of his assets lies somewhere between those figures."

Peanuts.  Even if he decided to spend all of his disposable income (much less than $52 million), it's still a drop in the bucket.
