I don't see anything in the link where either Geitner or Summers said anything about middle class tax increases.

All I see is this sentence from the author followed by no direct quotes to support it:

"Two of President Barack Obama's economic heavyweights said middle-class taxes might have to go up to pare budget deficits or to pay for the proposed overhaul of the nation's health care system."

There isn't anything definite at this point, but this is a huge announcement that could further decrease this president's approval rating.  To me, it seems like this was the plan all along, if people would have listened.  You can't expand government this much, borrow and spend with all these bailouts and new programs and expect not to pay for it.  This administration is great at telling us how we need something immediately but is also great at skirting the question of how it is paid for...along with their sketchy economic estimates and predictions.

If you vote for a liberal democrat, you will get bigger government, more gov programs and a larger % of your $ going to pay for them (in direct or indirect taxation).  These are their general principles, no matter how its disguised.
With a republican, I'm not sure what you get.  With a true conservative, you should get smaller gov, the ability to make more personal decisions and less of your $ going to the gov.

You think it was just a coincidence that Summers and Geithner both came out on the same day with the same message????  Come on Straw.

The writing is on the wall, Obama cannot pay for his health care package with taxes solely on the evil rich.

I love how the washington elite refuse to cut spending and meaningfully cut their budgets.  They do not listen to the will of the people.

I do not understand how we can rationally propose to take on nationalized healthcare during a recession.  The CBO clearly said this will not cut overall healthcare costs.  This overhaul should wait until next year when the economy is in better shape.  Its also appauling that obama is in the pocket of trial lawyers and refuses to have any provisions of tort reform or pre-trial screening to prevent frivelous lawsuits in healthcare reform...something that every medical society has asked for and something that nearly everyone agrees would cut the cost of healthcare.

You know what Shoot?

I make cogent rational arguments against the insanity that is being proposed and the more insane the policy from this Admn, the more ardent the obamabots become in their defense of this crap.

The tort issue alone should kill this bill.

I heard that the amount of total taxes paid by the top 1% in this country is at an all time high.  The top 1% now pay more $ in taxes than the bottom 95%.  I think its unreasonable to penalyze them more at this point to pay for more programs on the Obama wish list.
I agree with progressive taxation to a point but not excessive progressive taxation (like we had under Carter).

Without tort reform or judicial screening for frivelous cases, I am against any large healthcare overhaul.  Some form of these ideas need to be included.  Obama is in the bag for the trial lawyers because of their massive contributions.  If you took 100 people and explained to them how we could cut direct and indirect costs through these 2 reforms, I'll be more than 90 would agree to some version of tort reform/limited excessive lawyer financial judgements, and judicial pre-screening.

We have another opportunity in 2010.  I will be voting for people who want to protect personal freedoms and limit government size and power.
How we prevent these guys from being corrupt once entering Washington?....make them accountable and vote them out if they fail us.
