If no taxpayer money is used I support it 100%.

If the dealer gets to keep the clunkers and re-sell it, great.

Yep and Yep.

The government sent a wonderful precedent here and allowed the Private Sector to take over.  They were able to get GM, Chrysler back on their feet, rehire workers, extend shifts, form a customer base, provide better fuel efficiency which will save billions in the long run, not to mention the direct impact that it will have on a families savings as they get better MPG thus helping the environment.

Without the initial program, the program would not have come into fruition.  Now the Private Sector is able to take over the reins and continue the program and improve it a bit as the trade-ins can be sold for money.

The Government was not allowed to sell the trade-ins by law.  The Government also is aware that the program worked TOO WELL and has no immediate plans to revive it as long as the Private Sector can keep it going.

All around good news.

This does go on already though TA - the dealer marks up the trade in value so the purchaser gets to screw around with the financing a little bit.
