No NFL season in 2011
« on: September 16, 2009, 07:17:55 PM »
I listen to ESPN radio whenever Im driving. I watch ESPN 1 & 2 on TV when I can. I like Mike and Mike in the morning. I also like Eric Casilious and Freddy Coleman too. I listen to another radio sports network that has Dan Patrick and Jim Rome.

One thing discussed that is constant: it seems there will be no NFL season in 2011. Period.

Not gonna happen.  To much money to be lost.  I assume you are referring to the proposed rookie salary structure to keep idiots like Jamarcus Russel from making more than Manning and Brady before he ever takes an NFL snap.  The players union would be foolish to fight it.  Not to mention, not all players are going to agree to locking out. Millions would be lost.

Next year could be uncapped, but a total lockout in 2011 is laughable.  Those guys are dumb, and pretty foolish - imo.  What credible source do they have saying there will be no season in 2011?

Agreed, rookies will be payed well ( not like the crazy contracts they are getting currently) and the cap will either get lifted or expanded.  There is no way in hell vets lock out and lose millions.  Crazy talk.

That would suck   but I need a break anyway...I can use that offseason to work on my masters  and actually go to church on a fall Sunday.

I predict the lockout will happen.

NEVER underestimate the stupidity of a union in pro sports.

I hope the owners beat the fucking shit outta them.

The NFL's product is too good.

When MLB, the NHL, and the NBA had strikes or lockouts, no one cared.  Hockey canceled an entire season and no one even noticed.

But think back to the NFL strike in 1982...people in small towns all over this country were *pissed*.

The players' union is better positioned for a strike or lockout this time, but both sides have already blinked.  The last thing they want is for MLB to become relevant again in August and September.

I heard the tea party commented, and said they're okay with cancelling the NFL season.

however, if the NASCAR season gets cancelled, they'll be bringing pitchforks and shotguns to stadiums looking to punish anyone wearing sneakers.

Something will be worked out IMO.

The NFL is the Top Dog these days...they aren't going to fuck that up.
