Thanks, this was just the encouragement I needed. During the summer when in shape I was eating lots of raw spinach but started to second guess if it was worth it, but now I'm getting back to eating it again.

ive been sick all weekend from something I ate.  Feeling miserable.  I advise against eating anything even "suspect" of having gone bad.

i only wish i had taken my own advice.

Well, the spinach I had last night had a funky smell to it. Some of the leaves had lost their structural integrity, as well as taken on the physical attributes of soaked paper towel.

In layman's terms, some of the spinach had gone "mushy".

Nope, dont eat the 'mushy' ones. Salvage the good stuff and put that shit in the blender!

Has it gone rotten in or outside of refridgeration??? If in the refridgerator it's fine. Outside the fridge throw it out. It just looks gross. If your hard core eat it the way it is. Or Id advise to blanch it in boiling water for 10-15 seconds. Put some kind of acid in the water. A splash of lemon juice, vinegar, or white wine and this will help to bring back it's green color. When you buy any kind of pre-packaged greens. Always open up the bag and let it breath while storing it in the fridge. It will last twice as long.

I noticed that too, salad goes bad quickly when still packaged and can't breathe.

All vegetables basically. But leafy veg really needs to breath. If there's excessive moisture in the bag it will rot overnight.

That's what happened because it still had several days until best before date. I had no idea not to keep it sealed.

you can eat mushy spinach raw or cooked it will taste nasty either way but its fine

dont let spinach sit around for no more than 7 days even then u can eat it but it tends to have this odd mint flavor all mushy but still packed with vitamins .
