I think Larry Scott was the first bodybuilder with "modern" amounts of unnatural muscle mass. He was the first Dianabol built champion.

Big Al is right in saying Scott was the first modern type in terms of muscle mass.

I view Schwarzenegger as the first modern bodybuilder in that he was willing to pop as much of every pill and potion going as he could/had to to get on top of the competition.

Lol.

"Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated".

It's interesting to see the difference in physiques altered by d-bol.

Whatever guys were using before (if anything) must have been much less potent.

I guess d-bol is the literal modern body-builder.

Otherwise it seems like most people think Sergio edges out Arnold.

I don't agree. Based on this pic, Sergio looks disproportionate and undefined. Modern? Perhaps.

Actually on that pic, you can clearly see that Sergio is wider though smaller, taper is slightlymore pronounced, his triceps are better than Arnold'sas his forearms, Arnold has him on biceps definition but Sergio has the peak (though I think that's just that particaular picture as Arnold had a great biceps peak), SSergio's thighs are fuller, rounder bellies tight there, calves are Arnold's. Do the math.

He (Sergio) is also smaller and less imposing, lacks definition, and despite having a greater taper at the waste, looks 'thrown together' overall.
He's a collection of parts like Ronnie Coleman. There's no flow to his physique at all.

if arnold had today's 'sports nutrition', he'd be gunter schkerkamp.

and, since he would be so marketable, they would change judging criteria so that he won every year.

That's complete and utter bullshit. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STRUCTURE and muscle bellies. Such an ignorant comment to make. Arnold was one of the greatest of all time. Gunter was not in Arnold's league and no, I am not an Arnold fanboy.

Shhhhhhhhh, I hear he recovered from the massive blood loss after he slit his wrists and cut through a major artery. You don't want him to cut himself again, do you?  ;D

yeah fucking right

let the (warranted) arnie worshipping begin

6'1" and if he had legs he would have been 260 pounds in competition and 280 pounds offseason.
