This Is Our Moment!
« on: February 03, 2010, 10:41:07 AM »
E-mail your senator today!  This is our moment!

http://www.nrdcactionfund.org/thisisourmoment/?p=1281&c=349598&s=763572&l=81599

The United States of America can lead in the development of clean energy technology and manufacturing while we lead in the fight against global warming.

Everyone knows we have a dependence on oil we buy from countries that don't share our values. This threatens our security and our integrity. And it needs to stop. We know it does. Still, we've seen our dependence on foreign oil grow and pollute the air we breathe and endanger our planet. But we can change that. Now.

There's a bill in the Senate that will break foreign oil’s stranglehold on our country, reduce carbon pollution, and create jobs right here in America—good jobs that pay well and can't be outsourced.

It’s one of the most important pieces of legislation of our time. It's a clean energy bill. And it’s been a long time coming.

Email your Senators to pass the Clean Energy Jobs & American Power Act. This is our moment.

Let's get this done! Energy independence and world leading green tech/job creation!

Apparently you dont read KC.  Cap & Trade is DOA.  Even Obama is retreating on the trading aspect of this scam.

I guess people want to be dependent on an ever dwindling resource.  They would rather we destroy America's beauty in the name of cheaper power than man up and take charge.  I guess people would rather we never became a producer and exporter of goods again, that we rely on China and India for the rest of our existence.

Nah, they will sit back, pollute more and laugh as the last remnants of our industries leave the U.S. for their nations.

Actually...I think we should be the leader in clean energy.  The problem is Cap and Trade isn't the answer...the technology isn't totally there yet either, but I hope we have people doing the research so we aren't the FOLLOWERS.  I don't want to wait while China and India get ahead...what happened to this nation of leaders?

This is a sad state of affairs if you guys want to wait around for somebody else to do something.

Cap & Trade and the bill passed by the house have nothing to do with clean energy.  Its about providing a carbon trading market where GS and opther financial gamblers like Al Gore will literally have the opportunity to drive up the cost of every aspect of our life.

I'm well aware of this.  I said that in my last post about it not being the answer.  My problem is other people's attitude with lets just wait for someone else do it.  That laziness and a lack of responsibility...we still should be the leaders when it comes to cleaner energy in whatever form that is.

That's fine, but the technology just is not there to replace what we have unless it is massively subsidized by tax dollars that the govt has to take from the private sector in the form of higher taxes, etc.

I say we do Nukes, Drilling, Natural Gas, etc.

Wind, Solar, etc are just not viable on a large scale in relation to their associated costs.

Hence my first post in this thread hoping that there are scientists working on the technology so when it is available we are the first to implement it.  Natural Gas is becoming more and more popular and would like to see with we could recycle the gas that we put into the ground from clean coal.  My point remains that we should still strive to be the leaders with not only this but many other things and do the leading by the way we live.

You lead by example; not like a politician with "do as I say not as I do."

Nukes are a short term fix.  They provide ongoing costs and problems with their waste.

Oil and natural gas aren't exactly in abundance compared to elsewhere. Canada and Russia both have more oil than the US.

What we have here are a bunch of people too afraid to step up.

Oh as for China and India they signed onto the copenhagen agreement just so you know.

But the US still have more pollution per capita than either of those countries.  Leaders act first, they don't follow.

My point exactly.

While I disagree with nuclear at the moment your last line says it all.

You know what.  I read this morning in the paper that they had signed on but i can't find confirmation online.  I did find a reuters india article which says they have yet to sign on but have submitted a plan to reduce emissions.  http://in.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idINIndia-45884520100203

Decapitate & Tax is DOA just like HCR.

After seeing the massive failure of the stim bill, the Senators dont want to be on the hook for a Hat Trick of failures.
