I don't really like any pro bodybuilders these days
« on: March 04, 2010, 10:40:02 PM »
I was looking at all the guys at this upcoming Arnold contest, and I realized i'm not really rooting for any of them or really like any of them.

Back in the 90's it seemed like the guys had more personality. Like Priest, Levrone, Dillet, etc. These were guys that had a unique image and personality. Most of the guys were like that.

But now it just seems a lot more one-dimensional. The guys are all just kind of BLAH. Anyone else seeing this?

Kai Greene and Branch Warren are the only ones that really have any kind of style it seems.

+ 10000....

same thing for me, started bbing in 90's and bber were all differrent, mass monster (fux nasser dillet), little stallion (ray priest), powerful bber like levrone, coleman, different personnality, different training style.
those guy make me dream when i was a kid.

When you watch a bbing video today it's always the same shit.
a guy enter in a gym, wearing a hosier and large clothes, looking asleep and bored of being there, he say "hi" to the camera and do smith machine for two hours.

you had to ask "anyone else NOT seeing this?"..

sure in the 90s and even the 80s bodybuilding as a whole was much more popular than now.. some of the main reasons for that are personalities and also physiques of current pros.. compare the top 10 of the last olympia to any top 10 in 94-98, physiques wise and also personalities wise!.. each of the top guys in the 90s had a big separate fan base.. now i dont see this at all..

this is why also you see more threads on GB about nasser, dorian, ronnie, levrone.. etc than threads about jay and dex who won the last 2 mr. olympias!!!!!!!!.......

I'm glad you all see it too.

I stopped following pro BB in about 2001 and just started checking it out again a few months ago and it's changed a hell of a lot. I can't really get into it.

i remember watching the 2001 bfto years ago, at that time i understood that an era was over.

also we who are 30 and above now have reached an age where you cant care more about a new bb hero.. nasser, dorian, haney are still my favorites because they were my favorites when i was young.. but again i dont see a lot of teenagers now care a lot about current bodybuilders as we used to do 10 years ago!!..

another reason i see is the internet!!.. in mid 90s when the internet was still limited we were waiting for flex magazines as a treasure but now you have everything every day on the net.. imo this has made things less valuable!!.. in the 90s very few were able to watch mr. olympia videos but now you have them all everywhere for free on the net!!..

I think the late 80s were the best, Haneys era. the bodyweight of guys blew out after that, bodybuilding became more about the drugs in the 90s and even more so now, bodyweights have got more unhealthy as the years have gone by, its progress in bodyweight at the expense of quality muscle and overall shape, but thats just my opinion.

I agree, things have changed bigtime.

Lee Priest was always my favorite BB, even though I'm 6 foot.  Even though he was one of the 90's bodybuilders - look at the guy in the past 7 years..  He turned into a fucking bitch and is an absolute disgrace as a role model.

Once Kevin and Shawn finally stepped out, there was really nobody left and it was just a lineup of gifted black guys that all look the same.

No shit.. 2000 was the last year it was interesting.

I think Gunter gave us hope in 2002 for a continuation of the good times, but he dropped out and it all seemed to go to shit afterwards...

Said it before. I'll say it again: any Mr O top 6 Bber from 91 to 99 would win today's O by a country mile.

Best music was the 90's too, some great stuff since but overall much better and far less shit back then.

BBing in the 90's had the best genetics i think now with Wolf, Heath, Kai, Dex we have a good field but the genetics arn't as good as the 90's.

I think the internet has done a lot to devalue bodybuilding. Come to sites like this where everyone is making fun of the pro's it becomes hard for people to really respect them. Mind you the pro's these days just don't have the character the pro's back in the 80's and 90's did. It's so drug riddled now too and the pro's have taken it way past extreme that nobody wants anything to do with looking like that. It's funny, once in a while when I see a pic of Bob Paris or an older lee Labrada or shawn ray, that motivates me. Seeing these guys these days does nothing to motivate me.

I haven't followed much Pro BB since the reign of Coleman. I do like Branch Warrren though but he's the only one that stands out as having a personality. Plus I can't help but like a fellow hunter. I would have really like to have seen him or Palumbo tie up a boar hog on that MD video.

It's not that you don't like them or anything changed.  You just grew up and realize now that you are older that bodybuilders are nothing but drugs.
