Its dangerous.If the government has unlimited access to your DNA whats to stop them from planting DNA of political enemies at crime scenes to get rid of the competition.That goes for both sides.

I would like to know how long DNA would be held in the system.  I think this is a double edged sword.  You may catch a few sh*tty guys here and there but for innocent people, their DNA should be destroyed as soon as they are released without conviction.  Assuming they are done so of course.

an arrest doesnt mean guilty (well neither does a courtroom per se) but if convicted, t hat is another story. Bad idea all around

As the article says the federal government and 18 states currently have some form of mandatory DNA upon arrest.  It just depends on the crime with which arrested for.

Kind of like getting a CWP.  In my state you give two sets of fingerprints...one to our SLED agency and another goes to the FBI.  The FBI set are supposed to be destroyed after your background check is completed.  Is it really though?   ???  Just sayin...I obviously don't trust our government to be that honest.

They wouldn't be able to use it as evidence that's for sure, but they could then pin you to a crime and look for things to support that, of course they would have to prove why exactly they figured you to be a suspect.
