Speaking of which ..... but not homosexually connected.......
Many years back I had a friend who was one of the security guys for "New Kids on the Block" and I had a couple of occasions to go the the top floor to check out some complication with one of the "Kids" who was more than likely trying to sneak some of his female fans past security. (I think that they were all pretty young back then and the whole floor was reserved for them and their crew. Fans were completely forbotten!)
And going up there was an amazing experience on how "teen rock stars" and their counterparts live while 'on the road'.
It appeared to be complete bedlam with a few dozen people running around solving this and solving that just before the group left to do their gig.
ANd the kids just sat on the floor by the elevator waiting for the next elevator load of female groupies (and even some teenage guys too) who somehow got beyond security in the lobby and every other floor that they were stationed on.
And as soon as that elevator door opened those fans would come rushing out and see the kids sitting there laughing and encouraging them to come and sit with them. But that was a security No-No so they were once again were corralled into the elevator and one of the guards would jump in and push the button to the lobby while they all screamed and shouted and cried a lot. (Not the guards, Stupid!)
And that would happen over and over again until the head guy would say, "OK! Showtime!" and the kids would hop into their personally waiting private elevator with as many guards who could fit and off they'd go to so their singing thing.
ANd as soon as they had departed, another elevator full of fans would "hit the beach" un-molested because the kids had left so for the next few hours the fans could run around that vacant floor as their little hearts desired.
I'd laugh and tell them that they had just gone down the fire stairwell and that pretty much cleared out the place.
I asked my friend, "Is this pretty much normal?"
And he replied, "No, it's usually much worse! This has been a very mellow day! Come-on, let's go, I'll take you backstage!"
That was my one and only day seeing a somewhat typical day among teen age heart throbs. And it was very interesting to see how it was all organized and orchestrated. Nothing seemed to be overlooked in an effort to protect the kids and get them to their gig on time.
Had to tell ya that for some unknown reason.
