Pretty decent fights last night. Some weird stops, but al around decent.
Jones v Vera - John Jones is no joke. He manhandles Vera with some sick wrestling and viscous G&P. He credits the elbow that ended it to what he learned from Team Jackson & GSP. Vera didn't look like he was in it, even from the weighins. Not sure what happened to this guy. He seems like a shadow of his former self. By the way, he suffered three facial bone fractures as a result of the elbow.
Kongo & Buentello was a weird fight. I was hoping for a 1st round KO and thought that Paul would beat Kongo to the punch. But, Kong had a good game plan, which unfortunately made the fight kinda boring. He set up the take down with good striking and punished Paul in the ground. Tap out from elbows to the leg...lol...first time I've seen that. And how about the dislocated pinky...ouch!
Gonzaga vs Dos Santos was exactly what I tought it would be. Gabriel tried to take this fight to the ground but Junior showed great takedown defense. Once the fight was relegated to the feet, it was just a matter of time before Junior connected. And, I'm surprised Gabriel didn't see it coming. Every time he threw the leg kick he got caught. Junior got the timing down and it was lights out.
Alession Sakara vs James Irving - this is another fight that I was really looking forward to. Unfortunatelly it too had a weird ending. I think Sakara was getting the best of Irving, and Irving used the knuckle/eye poke as a way out. This, BTW is not a good weight for Irving. At 205 he's already shredded. At 185 he looked horrible. Word is he is going back to 205.
John Howard VS. Daniel Roberts - never heard of either of these guys and I could barely tell them apart, but they put on a great fight. Roberts had some impressive jitz and seemed to be getting the upperhand until Howard landed the brutal KO punch, which was followed by to more solid punches before the ref could step in. This was an eyes in the back of the head, head bouncing on the floor like a basketball KO.
