Expiration date on Meal Replacement Powders
« on: April 18, 2010, 07:19:51 AM »
How long are MRPs good after the expiration date?  I was given about 80 packets of MET-Rx, but they expired back in August of '08.

By “good,” are you asking if they’re safe, or rather, effective?
I’ve consumed expired powdered-form supplements and never gotten sick or had any other adverse reactions.

How were they stored?
Those packets should be airtight & foil lined, but still – cool, dry storage places are preferable in my book.

I know that some medications lose their potency after a while, but the way those powders are processed – and the fact that they’re individually sealed – they may not be effected even in that capacity.
It’s not like a half-used container that’s been opened since the expiration date.

Oftentimes, those dates are simply for stock rotation purposes.

Yes, I'm asking if they are still effective.  I've used about five or six, and have had no problems.  According to the guy who gave them to me, they were kept cool and dry.

Thanks for the info.

i would think that they're fine... usually with those types of packs the only effect would be that once opened they would age quickly but if you are opening them as you use them then i would guess that you're good to go...

^ They should be fine.  You'd know skunky protein powder by the smell...
