Anyone use "in training" supplements?
« on: April 25, 2010, 08:26:46 AM »
Just wondering if anyone uses any in or during training supplements.

I am currently using NO Synthesize by VPX.  I have also used Size On by Gaspari and Volumaize by BSN.  I just sip between sets and pace myself so it is done around three quarters of the way through the workout.

I feel they are worthwhile and maybe even an underrated aspect of supplement use.

Any experiences good, bad, or indifferent?

Just drink your PW shake while you train and than go home and eat a meal.

I feel it takes some of the importance off of the post workout shake.  Because of my work schedule I really can't have a full pre-workout meal on most days so my stack looks something like this:

-1 hour before training I have a Zero Impact Bar (by VPX)...these seem to be the only bars on the market that don't mess with my stomach.  No malitol, sorbitol, other artificial sweetners, ect...They are pretty high in calories-440 and 20 grams of fat so they are not for everyone but I'm full after eating them.  With so many bars not only is my stomach upset but I don't even feel full.
-Start sipping NO Synthesize right at the start of the workout and finish, as mentioned, around three quarters of the way through the workout.
-Within half hour after the workout have an actual food meal.

I know conventional strategies are often to drink a fast acting protein right after the workout then have a food meal an hour or so after.  I feel that since I've had 30 grams of protein from the bar and 20 grams from the synthesize, which is a fast acting protein, the food meal is not a bad choice.  That and I've had a pretty decent amount of protein in a two to two and a half hour span revolving around the workout.

Also not trying to sound like a VPX add but that is what I'm using now.

And whats with the carrot juice...?  Lol.

Almost all supps are worthless. Trust me, protein shakes are good to replace missed meals, multi-vitamins are ok, fish oil and flax are good. Magnesium calcium potassium are good. Anything else is worthless.

No use for creatine?  Caffeine-in supplement form if you don't feel like consuming coffee-no benefit?  No benefit it vitamin D?  I've seen people have tremendous results with Glucosamine/Chondroitin supps...

I get what you're saying in the sense that the market is loaded with overhyped products.  I mean how many forms of creatine can you have when they are really no better than good ol' monohydrate?

I just wouldn't say that almost all are worthless.  Like any industry being an educated consumer is your best route.

I've used Size-On (love the Lemon Ice flavored one); it's pretty decent. Of course, if you're looking to do it on the cheap, simply use Body Fortress' Super High Performance Creatine and consume it during your workout. It basically has everything that an "in-training" supplement product does: Simple carbs, creatine, arginine, and a little BCAA.
