If you were travelling through another country, let's say in Europe, would you not be carrying papers to identify yourself with? Would you get pissed if a cop stopped you near the scene of a robbery and asked to see them? No, you would comply to avoid trouble. That's a FACT. Showing your papers isn't some new and foreign concept.
